The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rantalainen tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Holmes paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Rantalainen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Holmes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rantalainen has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Holmes has managed to get both his arms back between Rantalainen's legs - danger averted.
Rantalainen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Holmes is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Simo Rantalainen has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rantalainen cracks Holmes with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
