Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Hammit! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Peter Davis! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Frank Dennis and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Davis darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Hammit trying to control but Davis postures up.
Hammit wants to get back to his feet.
Hammit is trying to maintain the position but Davis is very close to passing his half guard. Hammit is looking to improve his position.
Hammit is staying active underneath Davis, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hammit is looking to control Davis's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hammit avoid being mounted? Davis seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Davis throws a series of punches but Hammit moves out of range. Davis closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hammit to the mat! Hammit manages to get full guard. Hammit trying to keep a closed guard but Davis is proving a slippery customer.
Davis trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Hammit tries to land a sweep but no joy. Davis's corner is telling him to maintain position. Hammit will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hammit looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Davis throws a strike but Hammit rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Davis trying to control the position.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Davis throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hammit's waist but Hammit gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Davis off to one side. Hammit lands the left hand. Davis looks gassed! Davis scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Hammit throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Hammit is looking to clinch but Davis is avoiding it.
Davis drives through and clinches with Hammit against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hammit tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Davis smiles and moves away.
Davis clinches up with Hammit and pushes him back against the cage. Davis wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Davis tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Hammit just stands there and leans against the cage. Hammit tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Davis smiles and moves away.
Hammit misses with a takedown and Davis counters into the clinch. Nicely done. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Hammit. That's going to take a lot out of him. Davis has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Hammit regains guard immediately. Hammit controls Davis momentarily but Davis frees himself. Hammit throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Davis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hammit. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Davis wants to pass the guard but Hammit is keeping the position. Davis trying to control but Hammit is working from the bottom. Davis wanted to stand there but Hammit had control of the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hammit fails with the takedown and Davis counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Hammit avoids the head kick by Davis.
Hammit keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Hammit tries to clinch but Davis moves away and Davis counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Hammit's guard now. Hammit working a defensive guard here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Davis sitting in guard, not really doing much. Hammit trying to keep a closed guard but Davis is proving a slippery customer.
That's one minute gone in the round. Davis tries to free his leg and advance position but Hammit is retaining full guard. Davis wants to get up but he can't break Hammit's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Davis trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Davis preventing the sweep.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Davis closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Davis lands in his opponent's guard. Davis is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Davis is in close to Hammit's body, working some short punches and elbows. Hammit is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Davis won't allow Hammit to get back to his feet. Davis looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Davis must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Davis wants to pass the guard but Hammit is keeping the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hammit had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Davis defends it easily. Davis would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Hammit lands a high kick!
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Hammit tries to clinch up and Davis counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Hammit is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Davis. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man. Davis tries for a takedown but Hammit manages to get underhooks.
Hammit is trying to drag Davis to the mat but Davis just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Davis jumps guard and drags Hammit to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Hammit trying to control the position from guard on top but Davis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Hammit stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Davis swivels though and keeps the full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Peter Davis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Back to the action!
Davis shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hammit defends it nicely. Davis fails in his attempt to clinch. Davis takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Mark Hammit is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Hammit throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Hammit is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Hammit swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Hammit takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Hammit throws a head kick that Davis semi-blocks.
Hammit slips a straight right by Davis. Hammit lands with a kick to the temple. Davis shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Both fighters are breathing heavily. Hammit is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Davis tries to clinch up. Hammit tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Davis paws at him with a jab and circles away. Hammit throws a nice outside leg kick. Davis shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hammit napping and manages to drive through into side control! Davis decides to stand back up. Davis steps back and let's Hammit get back to his feet. Davis drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Peter Davis has got the better of the ground game so far. Hammit is not content to let Davis control the position. Davis is trying to get an arm triangle but Hammit is defending well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Hammit's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Davis throwing shots but missing, from side control. Hammit sneaks back into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Davis working the head and body with strikes. Davis is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Davis looks to clinch and Hammit counters with a left to the body. Hammit looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Hammit with a lazy takedown attempt and Davis counters with a nice double leg into guard. Hammit looking to hit a scissor sweep but Davis is one step ahead there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Davis is pushing down on Hammit's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hammit is fighting to maintain full guard but Davis has managed to sneak the leg through. Davis trying to control from half guard but Hammit is working away. Davis is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Hammit as he works his way to full guard.

A close third round but Peter Davis just about did enough to take it. That's time! Back to the action!
Davis tries to close the distance and clinch but Hammit swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Hammit tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Davis counters with a takedown into side control. Both fighters take a look at the clock. Davis trying to control the action but Hammit is working from the bottom. Hammit is trying to control Davis's posture but Davis avoids it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hammit is looking to reverse the position. Davis thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Davis trying to control the position but Hammit is working away.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Davis throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. A decent looking cross lands there for Davis. Hammit scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Davis shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Davis is keen to just control but Hammit is a slippery customer. Davis prevents Hammit from improving his position. Hammit makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hammit.

Davis throws a combination that misses and Hammit counters with a head kick. Davis looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Hammit is trying to stand.
Hammit keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Hammit is looking to improve his position.
Davis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hammit keeps working. Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt. Davis is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hammit gets full guard. Hammit utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Davis wants to pass the guard but Hammit is keeping the position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Hammit doesn't succeed with the takedown and Davis counters with a big head kick but Hammit shrugs it off. Davis with a lazy takedown attempt and Hammit counters by moving into the clinch. Hammit breaks the clinch.
Nice body punch from Hammit. Davis dives in and grabs Hammit's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hammit pushes down on Davis's head and hops out. Davis clinches up with Hammit and pushes him back against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hammit wants a takedown but no success here.
Davis breaks from the clinch.
Davis tries to clinch but Hammit is having none of it. A head kick by Davis misses and Hammit counters with a nice body shot. Davis shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hammit sprawls well. Hammit wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Davis gets slowly back to his feet. Mark Hammit has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Davis. Davis circles away from the clinch attempt and Davis counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Hammit breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Davis gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Hammit keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Davis's efforts to push away. Hammit goes for a takedown attempt but Davis pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Davis is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Hammit. Davis tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Hammit's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Hammit duly obliges. Hammit keeps the fight on the outside. Hammit throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Davis. Davis gets the takedown into side control. Davis trying to control the action but Hammit is working from the bottom. Hammit manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hammit slows the pace down in half guard. Hammit is keen to just control but Davis is a slippery customer. Hammit seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Hammit prevents Davis from improving his position.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Peter Davis. I've got Davis winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
