Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jair Coeurgan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and BJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). BJ Penn will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coeurgan avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Penn doesn't manage to clinch there - Coeurgan circles away.
Coeurgan tries to score with a low kick but Penn moves his leg out of the way.
Penn throws a nice looking combination but Coeurgan bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Penn misses with a head kick.
Coeurgan tries to clinch

and Penn counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Penn trying to control the action but Coeurgan is working from the bottom.
Penn not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Coeurgan won't allow Penn to pass to mount.

Penn looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Coeurgan makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Coeurgan.

Coeurgan has Penn pulled in close to control his posture.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Penn gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Coeurgan has his takedown stuffed
and Penn counters with a head kick.
Penn slips under a jab from Coeurgan.

Penn bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Coeurgan manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Coeurgan wants to stand up but Penn has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Coeurgan seems to be looking for submissions.
Coeurgan is breathing heavily.
Coeurgan has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Coeurgan is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Penn has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Penn!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Coeurgan is working an open guard so Penn takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Penn has managed to clinch.
Coeurgan gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Penn.

Penn prevents a takedown attempt there.
Penn tries to pull guard but Coeurgan won't allow it.
Coeurgan is trying to break free.

Coeurgan is trying to trip Penn. He has hold of a leg but Penn is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Coeurgan persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

That's time! Coeurgan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

and Coeurgan counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Coeurgan.
A frustrated look appears on Coeurgan's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Penn stops a takedown attempt from Coeurgan.

Coeurgan is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Penn tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Penn is trying to maintain a safe position but Coeurgan gets an underhook and turns Penn into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Coeurgan is looking to break free of the clinch but Penn has double underhooks.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Coeurgan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Penn counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Penn is trying to control the position but Coeurgan postures up.

Coeurgan drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Penn manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Coeurgan has Penn in his guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Penn regains half guard.
Coeurgan trying to control the action but Penn is working from the bottom.
Coeurgan is thwarting Penn's attempts to control the position.
Coeurgan wants to take a breather but Penn is having none of it.
Coeurgan passes to full mount!
Penn is squirming around, avoiding Coeurgan's attempts to control the action.

Penn can't escape the position.
Coeurgan tries to control but Penn wriggling away.
Penn wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Coeurgan.

Coeurgan seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Penn for as long as he can get away with.
Penn is trying to escape the mount.

Penn shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Coeurgan counters by clinching up.
Penn wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Coeurgan has him pressed against the cage.
Coeurgan can't break the clinch.
Coeurgan wants to break free but Penn has control.
Coeurgan lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Penn backwards.

Penn decides to pull guard.
Coeurgan controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Penn keeping moving, preventing Coeurgan from controlling successfully.
Penn striking off his back but it's not causing Coeurgan any problems.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Coeurgan prevents Penn from getting back to his feet.
Coeurgan wants to control from the top but Penn keeps moving.
Penn doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Penn takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Coeurgan forces his way into half guard.
Coeurgan wants to take a breather but Penn is having none of it.

Coeurgan seems to be looking for submissions.
Coeurgan is looking to take a break and control but Penn is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jair Coeurgan just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Coeurgan throws a leg kick that is checked

and Penn counters with a single leg into guard. Coeurgan didn't expect that.
Penn wants to get up but he can't break Coeurgan's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Coeurgan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Penn can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Penn decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Penn prevents Coeurgan from breaking the clinch.

Coeurgan has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Penn is trying to keep an underhook but Coeurgan manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Coeurgan pulls out of a head kick attempt.

and Penn makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Coeurgan avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Penn throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Coeurgan takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
