PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rich Nixon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Iyaz Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rich Nixon is staring across the ring at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Rich Nixon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Iyaz Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Richard Clark and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nixon changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sanchez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Sanchez tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Nixon wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Sanchez, who protects the arm well.
Sanchez struggling a bit here.
Nixon happy to just control the position for now.
Sanchez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Nixon wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Sanchez slips under a jab.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Sanchez closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Sanchez working the ground and pound but Nixon is defending the strikes.
Sanchez creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Nixon sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Nixon tries to bench press Sanchez off him but Sanchez keeps the position.
Nixon is trying to control Sanchez's posture but Sanchez avoids it.
Sanchez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nixon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Nixon is looking for a sweep.
Sanchez working the head with strikes.
Sanchez tries to score with some ground and pound. Nixon controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Nixon manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Sanchez is trying to control but can't.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Nixon is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sanchez defends it well.
Nixon trying to pass the guard but Sanchez defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nixon seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Sanchez kicks Nixon off and gets back to his feet.
Nixon missing with a left hand there. Sanchez was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Sanchez gets caught flat footed, as Nixon shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Nixon is breathing heavily.
Sanchez keeping moving, preventing Nixon from controlling successfully.
Sanchez wants to sweep but no luck.
Sanchez is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Nixon trying to control but Sanchez is working from the bottom.
Sanchez has a closed guard, preventing Nixon from standing up.
Sanchez keeping moving, preventing Nixon from controlling successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nice takedown defense from Nixon. No joy for Sanchez on that attempt.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Horrible takedown by Sanchez or perhaps it was just good defense by Nixon which made him look bad.
Sanchez uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Nixon.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Nixon looks to land a combination but Sanchez avoids it well.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Nixon, as that shot connected.


It looks like Iyaz Sanchez has been cut.
Sanchez doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
A jab lands there for Nixon.
Nixon shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Sanchez counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Nixon trying to control the position.
Sanchez wants to get up but he can't break Nixon's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Sanchez working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Nixon looking for a triangle here. Sanchez is fighting it but it looks tight! Nixon pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Sanchez is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Rich Nixon!
