Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mitsuyo Maeda! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Mando Max! The judges for this bout are William Gold, Donald Grub and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Max tried to score with a low kick but Maeda checks it. Maeda shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Max is trying hard to land a takedown here. Maeda sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Max shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Maeda counters with a nice double leg into side control. Max won't be happy with that. Maeda tries for a kimura but Max is defending well. Max should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Maeda thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Maeda decides to stand back up. Max throws a head kick but Maeda moves out of range.
Max feints and as Maeda raises his hands in defense, Max changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Max postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Max must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Max prevents Maeda from getting back to his feet. Maeda trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Max is looking to work some ground and pound but Maeda has wrist control. Max loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Max has gone for a leg lock! Maeda slips out almost immediately though and dives into Max's guard. Max tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Maeda tries to stand but Max is controlling from the bottom. We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Max has eaten all the pies! Maeda drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Maeda seems to have locked his on tight now - Max screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Maeda, as he picks up the win!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Mitsuyo Maeda!
