Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jay Mitchell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Flare (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mitchell comes into the arena with DesertStorm/DJClue - Money Power Respect blaring out of the sound system. Flare has chosen Also Sprach Zarathustra as his entrance music. Rick Flare has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jay Mitchell! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rick Flare! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Summer Carpenter and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Flare swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Mitchell. Mitchell decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Flare keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Flare is staying active underneath Mitchell, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Flare is trying to maintain the position but Mitchell is very close to passing his half guard. Mitchell is looking for a kimura here.
Flare tries to roll over but Mitchell keeps him under control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mitchell is trying to control the action in half guard but Flare is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mitchell looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Mitchell is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Flare has managed to free his arm - good work.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Flare misses with an uppercut. Mitchell fails with an attempt to clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Flare shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Mitchell is trying to maintain the position but Flare is very close to passing his half guard. Mitchell looking for submissions off his back. Flare is trying to work for a kimura but Mitchell is defending well.
Flare is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Flare trying to control the action but Mitchell is working from the bottom. Mitchell keeping hold of Flare's head, controlling as best he can. Flare is working for a submission of some sort.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Flare moves nicely into side control. Mitchell manages to work his way to half guard, despite Flare's best efforts. Flare is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mitchell doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Flare. Flare is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mitchell defends it well. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rick Flare dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Mitchell doesn't manage to clinch there - Flare circles away.
Flare swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Mitchell slips under a jab. Flare looks to score with a jab to the body but Mitchell is just out of range. Mitchell tries to clinch up but Flare circles away and keeps his distance. Mitchell shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Flare defends it nicely. Mitchell throws a nice head kick!
It looks like Rick Flare has been cut. Mitchell tries to clinch up. Mitchell uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Flare has time to react. The fight stays on the outside here - Mitchell looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Flare stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Flare wants it to stay on the feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Flare misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Mitchell.
Mitchell keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Flare. Flare lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Mitchell tries for a takedown but Flare circles away easily and Flare counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Flare. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jay Mitchell. That's going to take a lot out of him. Flare is trying to break free. Flare working some nice short punches in the clinch. Mitchell is trying to break free. Mitchell lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Mitchell lands a right hand that snaps the head of Flare backwards. Flare tries for a takedown. No joy.
Flare has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mitchell is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Mitchell is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Flare is defending well for now. Mitchell prevents Flare from breaking the clinch. Mitchell manages to break the clinch.
Mitchell tries to clinch up and Flare counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Flare misses with a few strikes there.
Jay Mitchell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Mitchell misses with a takedown and Flare counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Mitchell! Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Flare with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Flare punching from mount but Mitchell doing a good job of avoiding damage. Flare can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mitchell is looking to escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Flare goes for an armbar but Mitchell turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Mitchell. Mitchell trying to control but Flare is working from the bottom. Mitchell has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Flare holds on and takes a little breather. Mitchell throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Flare works some decent striking defense from the bottom. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mitchell accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Mitchell stands up and waves to Flare to follow him. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Jay Mitchell will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Rick Flare's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Nice takedown defense from Mitchell. No joy for Flare on that attempt. Mitchell tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Flare counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Mitchell tries to clinch up. Mitchell takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Flare scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Flare fails with a takedown attempt. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Mitchell wants to clinch up but Flare keeps it at a distance. Mitchell moves in looking to clinch but Flare pushes him off. Flare dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mitchell closes the distance and pushes Flare back into the cage. Mitchell breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Flare throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Flare ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Flare misses with a body shot.
Flare circles away from the clinch attempt and Flare counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Mitchell thinking. Mitchell displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Flare. Jay Mitchell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rick Flare. Mitchell closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mitchell lands in his opponent's guard. Flare is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mitchell is aware though and is defending well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mitchell pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Flare is keeping the position for now. Flare controls Mitchell momentarily but Mitchell frees himself. Mitchell is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Flare is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Flare has escaped and now he's on top! Flare wants to control from the top but Mitchell keeps moving. Rick Flare has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Flare slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Mitchell regains half guard. Mitchell is defending against the submission attempts here by Flare.
Flare seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Mitchell has recovered full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Flare is pushing down on Mitchell's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mitchell is fighting to maintain full guard but Flare has managed to sneak the leg through. Flare seems to be working for a kimura but Mitchell defends the submission attempt. Flare is trying to work for a kimura but Mitchell is defending well.
Mitchell is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that's the end of the fight! Rick Flare comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Flare has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
