The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cote is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Cote tries to clinch but Benn moves out of range. Cote looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Benn is fending him off so far but Cote persists. Nope, Benn circles away and we're back to standing. Benn dives in and grabs Cote's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cote pushes down on Benn's head and hops out. Cote is looking to clinch. Benn gets caught flat footed, as Cote shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Benn wants to sweep here but Cote controlling him for the moment. Cote is looking to stand up but Benn won't let him. Cote is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Benn is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Benn has escaped and now he's on top! Benn pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cote is keeping the position for now. Benn must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cote keeping moving, preventing Benn from controlling successfully. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Benn passes Cote's left leg - he's now in half guard. Benn trying to mount his opponent but Cote defends it. Benn is trying to control. Cote wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Cote has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Benn is working away from the top position though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Benn is working for a kimura but Cote is defending it quite comfortably.
Benn in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Cote tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Benn!
