Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Ruas! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bill Foster! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Felipe Paraventi and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Foster. Ruas fails with an attempt to clinch.
Foster misses with a few strikes there.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Ruas fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Foster, pushing him back against the cage. Foster breaks from the clinch.
Ruas tries to land a front kick but Foster steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Foster shoots in and drives through. Ruas sprawls well. Ruas tries to clinch there but Foster circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Ruas looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Foster tries to bum rush Ruas with a series of wild strikes but Ruas uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Foster throws a series of punches but Ruas moves out of range. Ruas tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. A thudding body kick lands there by Ruas!
Foster looks gassed! Ruas is looking to clinch but Foster is avoiding it.
Ruas throws a head kick but Foster moves out of range.
Ruas is looking to clinch. Foster moves into range and clinches up with Ruas. The referee calls for Foster to work.
Ruas tries to pull guard but Foster won't allow it.
Ruas can't break the clinch.
Foster is trying to break free. Foster escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ruas doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nice takedown defense from Foster. No joy for Ruas on that attempt. Ruas takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Foster has closed the distance and engaged Ruas in a clinch.
Foster has had enough of the clinch but Ruas keeps him there for the moment. Ruas breaks from the clinch.
Foster moves out of range of the body kick. Ruas scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Foster prevents Ruas from moving into mount. Ruas fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Ruas in the domination position with Foster hanging on. Ruas working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Ruas tries to advance to mount but can't.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Foster explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Foster misses with a double jab.
Ruas clinches but Foster breaks the clinch and Foster counters with a two punch combo. Ruas fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ruas doesn't manage to clinch there - Foster circles away.
Foster walks forward, straight into a front kick from Ruas.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ruas tries to clinch up. Foster throws a right and a left that Ruas avoids nicely. Ruas thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Foster if he has to take too many more of those.
Oooh a lovely combination from Foster sends Ruas down but not out. Foster dives into side control looking to finish.
Ruas is rocked!
It looks like Anderson Ruas has been cut. Foster landing strikes. Oh Ruas is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Foster working the ground and pound. Ruas takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Foster is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ruas has escaped the position, nice work there. Foster scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Ruas to see if he's OK.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Ruas manages to work his way to half guard, despite Foster's best efforts. Ruas seems to have got his legs back now. Foster wants to stand but Ruas has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Ruas is not content to let Foster control the position. Ruas missing with punches from the bottom.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Ruas looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bill Foster dominated that round. The cut man is working on Anderson Ruas's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Some wild striking there from Foster.
Ruas clinches up against the cage. Ruas misses with a knee to the head. Ruas can't break the clinch.
Foster jumps guard but Ruas stands there with Foster around his waist. Foster gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Foster throws a head punch that misses. Foster wants to break free but Ruas has control.
Foster makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Ruas has had enough of the clinch but Foster keeps him there for the moment. Foster prevents Ruas from breaking the clinch. Foster lands a right hand that snaps the head of Ruas backwards. Foster breaks the clinch.
Foster circles away from the clinch attempt and Foster connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Foster misses with a few strikes there.
Foster swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Foster swats away the attempt to clinch by Ruas. Bill Foster seems to be getting the better of the standup. Ruas is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Ruas throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
That's one minute gone in the round. Foster with a poor takedown and Ruas counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Foster is rocked! Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Foster keeping moving, preventing Ruas from controlling successfully. Foster is still on wobbly legs! Can Ruas finish him? Foster bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ruas's guard. Foster seems to have recovered his senses. Foster working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Ruas's head. Ruas looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ruas is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Foster rolls with it to try and escape but Ruas cranks on the arm and Foster is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
