PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matty P (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randall Greene (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matty P!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Randall Greene!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Steve Erwin and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Greene avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Greene lands with a slapping head kick.


It looks like Matty P has been cut.
Greene throws a head kick but P moves out of range.
P leaves Greene with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by Greene or perhaps it was just good defense by P which made him look bad.

P has managed to clinch.
P missing with knees to the body.
Greene goes for a takedown in the clinch but P prevents it.
Matty P has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Randall Greene.

Greene breaks from the clinch.
P takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
P is breathing heavily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Greene changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. P tries to avoid it but Greene manages to keep hold of a leg and drag P to the ground. P escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
P has his takedown stuffed
and Greene counters with a nice leg kick.
Greene lands with a nice body punch.
Greene cracks P with an open hand slap.

Greene clinches.
Greene working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Greene jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as P walks away with a smile on his face. Greene gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Greene is trying hard to land a takedown here. P sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Greene goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


P is rocked!

Greene forces P back against the cage and clinches.
Oh P is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Greene jumps into guard, dragging P to the mat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Greene controlling the position.

P got a little sloppy there for a moment and Greene has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, P has managed to get both his arms back between Greene's legs - danger averted.
Greene looking for a sweep. Not yet Greene, not yet.
P seems to have got his legs back now.
Greene is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Greene trying to keep a closed guard but P is proving a slippery customer.
P is working Greene over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Greene tries to land a sweep but no joy.
P working some strikes from top position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

P instigates a clinch.

P's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Greene pulls out of a head kick attempt.

P takes the fight into the clinch.
Greene slowing the pace effectively.
P tries to pull guard but Greene won't allow it.
Greene prevents P from breaking the clinch.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Greene.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Greene as P tries to tie him up.
Greene is trying to work for a single leg takedown but P pulls him back up using the underhooks.
A short uppercut from P.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Greene is trying to maintain a safe position but P gets an underhook and turns Greene into the cage.
P looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Greene taking a breather.
P wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
P prevents a takedown attempt there.
Greene pushes P back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Greene tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. P just stands there and leans against the cage.
P is trying to force a seperation but Greene has the dominant position.
Greene can't get the takedown.
P is trying to break free.
P tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Greene just stands there and leans against the cage.

P prevents the takedown attempt.

Greene breaks the clinch.
Greene lands a nice leg kick that just misses P's sensitive parts.

Greene takes the fight into the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Greene blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
P tries to pull guard but Greene won't allow it.
Greene wants a takedown.

Greene gets control of P's arms and successfully pulls guard. Greene will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Greene working for submissions but it's allowed P to get to half guard.
Greene is trying to get back to full guard.
P is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Greene is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
P throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Randall Greene dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Matty P's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Greene wants to clinch

and P counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by P.
P wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Greene jumps guard.
Greene wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

P stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Greene throws a lazy head kick

so P counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Greene wants to sweep here but P controlling him for the moment.
P throws a big right hand that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
P postures up.

Greene looking for a guillotine here but P defends easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
P lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
P working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Greene looking for a sweep. Not yet Greene, not yet.
Greene is trying to control the position but P postures up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
P clinches but Greene breaks the clinch
and Greene counters with a series of strikes. P will be more careful next time no doubt.
Greene fails to land the takedown.
P is looking to clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
P tries to close the distance and clinch but Greene swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Greene lands a high kick!
Greene fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
P fails to land the takedown.
P is trying hard to land a takedown here. Greene sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Randall Greene seems to be getting the better of the standup.
The fighters circle momentarily. Greene darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Greene misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Matty P has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Randall Greene.
P tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Greene makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
No joy there for P, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Greene scores with a jab to the body.
P circles away from the clinch attempt.
P shoots in looking for a takedown. Greene tries to sprawl out of it but P keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Greene manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

P shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than P was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
P has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Greene working to try and regain half guard.
P in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
P looking to ground and pound but Greene is blocking nicely.
Greene is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Greene blocking the ground and pound.
P throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Greene wants to control but P is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Greene tries to reverse the position but P maintains control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
P landing strikes from the mount.
P throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Greene because P loaded up on that one.
P landing strikes, looking to finish!
Greene really doesn't want to stay on the ground with P. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
P working away from the top, dropping strikes.
P scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Greene?
P scoring with strikes but Greene is staying in there.
P with good strikes from the mount here!
Greene tries to buck P off but he can't manage it.
Greene is desperately trying to improve his position but P has a good base and remains in mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matty P dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Matty P's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Greene shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts P as he jumps to the side.

P clinches.
Greene stops a takedown attempt from P.
Greene tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. P just stands there and leans against the cage.
Greene can't get the takedown.
Matty P has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Randall Greene.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Greene obliges.

Greene breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
P tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Greene swivels and escapes.
Greene throws a nice head kick!
P closes the distance but Greene moves to the side

and Greene holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Greene escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
P takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Greene shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. P defends it nicely.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Greene breaks from the clinch.
P tries to score a power double leg takedown but Greene sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten P somewhat.

Greene has P up against the cage in a clinch.
Greene lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
P looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Greene is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
P has had enough of the clinch but Greene keeps him there for the moment.

Greene pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Greene scores with a push kick.
P tries to clinch
and Greene counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
P tries a head kick but it misses.

and Greene counters with a straight right hand.
Matty P seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
P misses with a takedown attempt
letting Greene counter with a right hand.

Greene shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. P manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

P has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Greene should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, P has tightened it up now! Greene should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Matty P!
