PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marco Ruas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oskari Jokinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ruas comes to the cage accompanied by Megadeth - Symphony of Destruction. Jokinen has chosen Prodigy - Firestarter as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Marco Ruas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Oskari Jokinen!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Gregory Folan and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big right from Ruas misses.
Ruas looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Ruas misses with a hook.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Jokinen.

Ruas shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Ruas was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Ruas looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Jokinen tries to hold on but Ruas pushes him away.
Jokinen keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Ruas throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Ruas throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Jokinen is wriggling around trying to escape.
Jokinen is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Ruas jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Jokinen is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Jokinen and Ruas has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Ruas is looking to take a break and control but Jokinen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jokinen gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ruas is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Jokinen tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jokinen is trying to control the position but Ruas postures up.
Ruas trying to control but Jokinen is working from the bottom.
Ruas passes Jokinen's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Jokinen on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Jokinen works his way to full guard. Good work.
Ruas wants to control from the top but Jokinen keeps moving.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Jokinen gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Ruas is trying hard to land a takedown here. Jokinen sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Jokinen wants to slow Ruas down by chopping away at his legs.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jokinen feints and then cracks Ruas's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Ruas down.
Jokinen uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Ruas.
Ruas lands with a nice combination. Jokinen backs away looking to recover.
A combination from Ruas does no damage.
Oskari Jokinen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A nice inside leg kick there by Jokinen. That's going to slow Ruas down.

Ruas wants to control from the top but Jokinen keeps moving.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jokinen is trying to keep Ruas in close.
Ruas throwing strikes but missing.
Ruas stopping the sweep attempt from Jokinen.
Ruas with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jokinen is pulling down on Ruas's head. It's preventing any offense from Ruas, at least for the moment.
Ruas looking to pass the guard.

Jokinen has his foot on Ruas's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ruas works his way back into a safe position though.
Jokinen keeping moving, preventing Ruas from controlling successfully.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jokinen is trying to control the position but Ruas postures up.
Jokinen looking for a sweep. Not yet Jokinen, not yet.
Ruas throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jokinen works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

so Ruas counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Jokinen looking for a guillotine here but Ruas defends easily.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marco Ruas dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Jokinen throws a head kick but Ruas moves out of range.
Ruas throws a hook to the side of Jokinen's head but Jokinen sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Jokinen scoring well with a low kick there.
Ruas bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
A looping hook to the body misses from Jokinen. Ruas does a little dance to reset his feet.
Jokinen pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ruas blocks a head kick by Jokinen.
Jokinen pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jokinen steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Ruas.

Ruas looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Jokinen is pressing down on Ruas's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Ruas keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Jokinen's head.
Ruas stands and throws Jokinen's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Ruas goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Jokinen has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Ruas but great work by Jokinen.

Jokinen is trying to get an arm triangle but Ruas is defending well.

Jokinen decides to stand back up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Jokinen clinches up with Ruas and pushes him back against the cage.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Ruas as Jokinen tries to tie him up.
Jokinen tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Ruas avoids it.
With the fighters up against the cage, Jokinen throws an elbow but misses.
Jokinen with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Jokinen is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Ruas is defending well for now.

Jokinen keeps control of Ruas as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Ruas gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Ruas wants to take a breather but Jokinen is having none of it.

Ruas is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Jokinen keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Jokinen tries to roll over but Ruas keeps him under control.

Ruas seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jokinen does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Ruas is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jokinen defends it well.
Ruas misses with a head shot. Jokinen uses the momentum to regain guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Jokinen throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Ruas counters with a shoot takedown. Jokinen fights it but they end up in guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Marco Ruas showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Ruas has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
