The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Lopez sprawls well initially but Penn persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Penn seems to be working for a kimura but Lopez defends the submission attempt.

Penn is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Penn is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Lopez doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Penn.

Penn has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lopez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Penn drops back, looking for a kneebar! Lopez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Lopez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Lopez!
Penn is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that DJ Penn will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Penn shoots in but Lopez avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Lopez misses with a hook. Penn ducked under it nicely.

Penn postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Lopez is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Penn, into his guard.

Penn had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Lopez defends it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Lopez moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Penn.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Penn is working hard here to advance position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Penn is looking for a sweep. Lopez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
