Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dolla Ballo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ken Nunoz! The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Daniel Blasius and Aafke Stam.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ballo shoots in and drives through. Nunoz sprawls well. Ballo feints and as Nunoz raises his hands in defense, Ballo changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Ballo won't allow Nunoz to get back to his feet. Ballo looking to pass the guard. Ballo stops Nunoz from standing up. Nunoz keeping moving, preventing Ballo from controlling successfully. Nunoz wants to stand up but Ballo is controlling him. Ballo thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Nunoz is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ballo is controlling him.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Ballo shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Nunoz sprawls well. Nunoz wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ballo gets slowly back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ballo shoots in for a double leg but Nunoz sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dolla Ballo. That's going to take a lot out of him. Nunoz displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ballo. Ballo closes the distance and clinches up with Nunoz, looking for a takedown. Ballo pushes Nunoz against the cage but Nunoz circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Dolla Ballo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nice sprawl there from Nunoz as Ballo shoots in. Ballo is breathing heavily. Nunoz shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Ballo manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ballo is looking for a triangle but Nunoz pushes his legs off easily.
Nunoz stands up and waves to Ballo to follow him. Nunoz misses with a wild body shot. Ballo misses with a takedown enabling Nunoz to counter with a crisp jab.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nunoz looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Nunoz must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Ballo is working an open guard so Nunoz takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Nunoz thows a body shot but no joy. Good shot there by Nunoz. Ballo gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Nunoz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ballo won't be happy with that. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Nunoz decides to stand back up. Nunoz steps back and let's Ballo get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ballo drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Nunoz pushes Ballo off and gets back to his feet.
Ballo misses with a takedown and Nunoz decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ballo's guard. Nunoz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ballo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nunoz has managed to get both his arms back between Ballo's legs - danger averted. Nunoz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ballo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Nunoz looking to pass the guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Ballo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nunoz doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nunoz manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ken Nunoz dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Nunoz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Ballo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nunoz doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nunoz manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Nunoz would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Ballo isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Nunoz stacks Ballo on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Nunoz!
That's one minute gone in the round. Nunoz decides to stand back up. Ballo fails with the takedown and Nunoz counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Ballo looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Nunoz wants to get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ballo actively working from the bottom here. Ballo looks like he's trying to stand up.
Nunoz controlling the action here. Ballo trying to control but Nunoz postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nunoz decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Nunoz works over Ballo's head and body with a nice combination. Nunoz drives through with a takedown into guard. Nunoz stands up from Ballo's guard - Nunoz perhaps looking for a knockout. Nunoz has been the more effective fighter overall so far. This has been an exciting period of action! Nunoz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nunoz stays in close to Ballo's body and controls the position. Ballo is looking for a triangle here but Nunoz uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Nunoz decides to stand back up. Nunoz steps back and let's Ballo get back to his feet. Ballo takes one on the chin but seems OK.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Nunoz misses the shot to the body. Ballo misses with a takedown attempt and Nunoz counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ken Nunoz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!
Nunoz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Ballo is looking to get to half guard. Ken Nunoz has got the better of the ground game so far. Nunoz stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing. A bone on bone clash there as Nunoz blocks the leg kick.
Ballo tries to clinch but fails miserably and Nunoz counters with a shoot takedown. Ballo fights it but they end up in guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Nunoz's corner is telling him to maintain position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nunoz has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ballo is proving hard to escape from. Ballo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Ballo controls Nunoz momentarily but Nunoz frees himself. Ballo has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Nunoz is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Ballo. Nunoz controls the position from side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ballo throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Ballo is trying to control Nunoz's posture but Nunoz avoids it. Nunoz decides to take the fight back to the feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ballo misses with a takedown and Nunoz counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Nunoz sitting in guard, not really doing much. Nunoz stands up from Ballo's guard - Nunoz perhaps looking for a knockout. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Nunoz is defended easily by Ballo.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ballo shoots and misses and Nunoz counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Ballo! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Nunoz controlling his opponent. Ballo tries to hold on but Nunoz postures up. Dolla Ballo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Ballo is working to get back to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Nunoz looking to control and managing it successfully.
And that's the end of the fight! Ken Nunoz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Nunoz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
