PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Earl Oyster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Old Greg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Greg has chosen Love Games as his entrance music. Earl Oyster has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Earl Oyster!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Old Greg!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Eddie Farnsworth and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oyster missing with a left hand there. Greg was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Greg tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Oyster was well out of range. Poor timing from Greg.
Oyster misses with the combination.
Greg swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Oyster throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Greg sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Greg closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Greg lands in his opponent's guard.
Greg stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Oyster swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Greg looking to sit in guard and control but Oyster gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Greg is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Greg has a closed guard, preventing Oyster from standing up.
Greg looking for a sweep. Not yet Greg, not yet.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Greg is looking for a triangle here but Oyster uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Oyster knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Greg on the ground.
Greg is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Oyster off and has taken his back!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Oyster wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Greg throws strikes from the back but Oyster rolls nicely and manages to end up in full guard. Nice work by Oyster.
Oyster wants to stand and escape but Greg is having none of it.

Greg stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Oyster swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Oyster will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Greg trying to control the position from guard on top but Oyster is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Oyster takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Greg fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Greg avoids a punch combination nicely.
Greg shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Oyster sprawls well. Oyster wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Greg gets slowly back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Greg shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Greg throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Greg is landing with some decent strikes but Oyster is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Greg unloads with some shots from mount but Oyster bucks and avoids them well.

Oyster is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Greg throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Oyster because Greg loaded up on that one.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Old Greg dominated that round.
That's time! Oyster's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Greg closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Oyster did well to prevent Greg getting side control.
Greg throws a strike but Oyster avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Greg accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Oyster has momentary wrist control but Greg slips an elbow through the middle.

Greg is trying to control. Oyster wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Oyster avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Greg.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Greg shoots in and drives through. Oyster sprawls well.
Oyster misses with a straight right.
Greg takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Greg takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.


It looks like Old Greg has been cut.
Greg slips under a jab.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Oyster lands a left and a right that send Greg crashing to the mat, dazed. Oyster thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Greg is breathing heavily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Greg fails with the takedown.
Oyster looks to land a left hand but Greg moved out of range nicely.
Greg throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Oyster throws a shot from downtown. Greg moves away and avoids it.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Greg.
Greg misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Greg misses with the ground and pound.
Oyster is not content to let Greg control the position.
Greg throws a strike aimed at the side of Oyster's head but Oyster avoids it well.
Oyster is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Greg tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Greg prevents Oyster from escaping the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A combination from Oyster does no damage.

and Oyster counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Oyster takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Earl Oyster dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Old Greg's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Greg misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Oyster.
Greg avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Greg moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Oyster wants to slow Greg down by chopping away at his legs.
Greg slips a jab from Oyster.
Greg tries to score a power double leg takedown but Oyster sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Greg somewhat.
Old Greg seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Greg fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Oyster sprawls well initially but Greg persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Greg throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Greg tries to pass to full mount but Oyster defends it.

Oyster is in trouble now - Greg has advanced to mount!
Oyster's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Oyster is trying to get to the ropes to help him get back to his feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Greg landing strikes from the mount and Oyster is in trouble!

Greg has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Oyster's face.

You get the feeling that Oyster really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Greg lands a nice shot to the head.
Greg wants to control the pace but Oyster is squirming around nicely.
Oyster is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Greg cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Old Greg comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Greg has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
