Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ben Brawn! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jerry Lee Redmond! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Brawn misses with a looping right. Redmond closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Brawn did well to prevent Redmond getting side control. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Redmond working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Brawn's thigh. Brawn counters though and makes it back to full guard. Redmond has gone for a leg lock! Brawn slips out almost immediately though and dives into Redmond's guard. Brawn throwing strikes but missing. Redmond looking for a guillotine here but Brawn defends easily.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Brawn is in close to Redmond's body, working some short punches and elbows. Redmond working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Brawn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Brawn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Brawn working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Redmond's head. Brawn avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Brawn makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Brawn working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Redmond's head. Brawn postures up and lands a big shot to Redmond's brow. Brawn cracks Redmond with a solid left hand. Brawn lands a couple of elbows. Redmond is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Redmond is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Brawn landing some decent shots from guard.
Redmond is rocked!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Redmond has his foot on Brawn's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Brawn works his way back into a safe position though. Redmond is still in real trouble! Can Brawn finish him? Brawn postures up and lands a big shot to Redmond's brow. Brawn gets to his feet and stands over Redmond, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Redmond felt that one! Brawn unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Redmond from any more punishment!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:04 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ben Brawn! Ben Brawn retains his featherweight title!
