Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Patrick Willis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ivan Ivanovich! The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ivanovich shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Willis but Willis pushes him off and we're back to square one. Willis feints and as Ivanovich raises his hands in defense, Willis changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Ivanovich is looking for a triangle but Willis pushes his legs off easily.
Ivanovich looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Willis scoring with some ground and pound. Willis trying to control but Ivanovich is working from the bottom. Willis sitting in guard here, content to control. Willis stands up from Ivanovich's guard - Willis perhaps looking for a knockout. Ivanovich looks gassed! Ivanovich misses with a takedown attempt and Willis counters with a takedown into side control. Willis could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. This has been an exciting period of action! Willis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ivanovich keeps working. Willis just content to control the position. Willis takes advantage of some sloppy striking from Ivanovich to pass into mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ivanovich keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Willis with a couple of short strikes. Willis sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Willis has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Ivanovich's face.
Willis controlling the pace for now. Willis has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Willis pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Willis is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Ivanovich to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Ivanovich shrugs it off. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Ivanovich working to try and regain half guard.
Willis looking to control and managing it successfully. Ivanovich is in all sorts of trouble here.
Willis tries to control but Ivanovich wriggling away. Willis takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Willis lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Willis looking to control but Ivanovich is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Willis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ivanovich on the ground.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Patrick Willis just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Ivanovich tries for a takedown but Willis circles away easily and Willis counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Patrick Willis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ivan Ivanovich. Willis tries for a takedown but Ivanovich manages to get underhooks.
Willis is trying to trip Ivanovich. He has hold of a leg but Ivanovich is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Willis persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Willis wanted to stand there but Ivanovich had control of the position. Willis wants to control from the top but Ivanovich keeps moving. Willis stands up and waves to Ivanovich to follow him. Ivanovich gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Willis counters with a flying knee. Nice.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Willis closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ivanovich did well to prevent Willis getting side control. Willis is keen to just control but Ivanovich is a slippery customer. Ivanovich punching from the bottom.
Willis performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Willis stalling away here and it's allowed Ivanovich to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Ivanovich had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Willis defends it easily. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Willis has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ivanovich is proving hard to escape from. Willis tries to free his leg and advance position but Ivanovich is retaining full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Patrick Willis dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Ivanovich throws a combination that misses and Willis decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ivanovich's guard. Patrick Willis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Ivanovich lands a couple of decent looking body shots there.
Willis tries to free his leg and advance position but Ivanovich is retaining full guard. Willis works a leg free and moves into half guard. Ivanovich won't allow Willis to pass to mount. Ivanovich punching from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Willis bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Willis controls the position from side control. Willis decides to take the fight back to the feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ivanovich tries to clinch and Willis counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Ivanovich actively working from the bottom here. Ivanovich looking for a kimura from the bottom but Willis passes into side control! Willis stands up and we're back to a striking position. Ivanovich doesn't succeed with the takedown and Willis counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Willis. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Ivanovich is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Ivanovich has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Willis can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Willis decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Ivanovich, up you get! Ivanovich darts in trying to clinch and Willis counters with a takedown into side control. Ivanovich throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land. Ivanovich is trying to get back to half guard. Ivanovich tries to strike from the bottom but misses. Ivanovich tries to strike but it doesn't land. Willis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ivanovich keeps working.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ivanovich pushes Willis away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Willis gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Willis advances to mount. Ivanovich is working to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Willis tries to control but Ivanovich wriggling away. Ivanovich is trying to escape the mount.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Willis with the ground and pound from mount. Ivanovich is wriggling around trying to escape.

and Willis counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Ivanovich! Ivanovich is squirming around, avoiding Willis's attempts to control the action. Willis punishing his opponent with strikes. Willis looking to control and managing it successfully. Ivanovich throwing hammer fists to the chest of Willis. What's that going to do exactly? Willis takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Willis trying to control but Ivanovich is having none of it. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Willis blocks Ivanovich's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Willis won't let Ivanovich get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Willis tries to control but Ivanovich wriggling away.

Willis is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Willis lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Willis decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. It looks like Willis is going to stand back up.
Ivanovich looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Ivanovich is refusing to be controlled, as Willis sits in half guard. Ivanovich makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ivanovich closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Willis is looking to reverse the position. Ivanovich trying to control the position but Willis is working away. Ivanovich decides to stand up, so the ref orders Willis to his feet. Willis forces Ivanovich back against the cage and clinches. Willis makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Ivanovich has a couple of punches blocked by Willis.

And that's the end of the fight! Patrick Willis showed his dominance in that final round. Well Willis has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
