7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Xavier Sanchez! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Boris Garcia! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Matheus Silva and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Garcia takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Sanchez tries a head kick but it misses.
Garcia fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sanchez sprawls well initially but Garcia persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Garcia tries to pass to full mount but Sanchez defends it. Sanchez tries to roll over but Garcia keeps him under control. Garcia wants to work for an arm triangle but Sanchez is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Sanchez taking some punishment here, with Garcia in his half guard. Sanchez is controlling Garcia's position as best he can from this difficult position. Sanchez wants to control but Garcia is keeping busy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Garcia is working for a submission of some sort.
Garcia is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sanchez sees it coming and defends easily. Sanchez keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Sanchez wants to get back to full guard. Sanchez avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Garcia. Garcia seems to be looking for submissions.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Sanchez stuffs the takedown.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Sanchez bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Garcia's head backwards. Garcia fails with the takedown. Sanchez just misses with a punch to the body.
Nice uppercut lands for Sanchez. That snapped Garcia's head back.
Sanchez throws a body punch but Garcia moves out of range. Sanchez lands a right hook to the body.
Garcia tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sanchez swivels and escapes. Xavier Sanchez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Boris Garcia. Garcia walks into a left hand. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Garcia is defended easily by Sanchez. A big right from Sanchez misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Garcia closes the distance and clinches. Sanchez dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage. Sanchez throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Garcias head. Sanchez breaks the clinch.
Sanchez misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Garcia.
Sanchez cracks Garcia with an open hand slap. Sanchez throws a big shot that misses. Sanchez looks to throw the jab but Garcia is out of range. No luck for Garcia with that takedown attempt. Garcia looks for a takedown but Sanchez sprawls well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sanchez stuffs the takedown. Sanchez lands with a right hand. Garcia tries to clinch but Sanchez is having none of it. Sanchez tries to keep at a distance but Garcia has taken the fight into the clinch. Sanchez lands a shoulder strike. Sanchez stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body. Garcia jumps guard and drags Sanchez to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Sanchez throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Garcia works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Garcia looking for a guillotine here but Sanchez defends easily.
Garcia looks gassed! Sanchez tries to free his leg and advance position but Garcia is retaining full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Xavier Sanchez dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Sanchez stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Garcia fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sanchez avoids it really well and circles away. Garcia has taken the fight to the clinch.
A nice left hand lands by Sanchez.

Garcia jumps into guard, dragging Sanchez to the mat.
Garcia is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sanchez defends well. Garcia is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Sanchez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Garcia has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sanchez has managed to get both his arms back between Garcia's legs - danger averted. Garcia is breathing heavily. Sanchez content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez wants to control from the top but Garcia keeps moving. Sanchez scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Garcia escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sanchez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Sanchez connects with a couple of short punches. Garcia has his foot on Sanchez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sanchez works his way back into a safe position though. Sanchez postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Sanchez connects with a couple of short punches. Sanchez scoring with punches to the head and body. Sanchez makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Sanchez trying to control the position from guard on top but Garcia is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Sanchez avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Sanchez wants to control from the top but Garcia keeps moving. Sanchez working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Garcia has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sanchez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Garcia has momentary wrist control but Sanchez slips an elbow through the middle.
Garcia is rocked! Sanchez postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Garcia is still in real trouble! Can Sanchez finish him? Sanchez lands a couple of elbows. Sanchez with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Sanchez loads up on a big left hand. Garcia felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Sanchez looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Garcia can't hide his disappointment, as Sanchez celebrates the victory.
