PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Andre Drolet (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonny Eroquo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jonny Eroquo will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Andre Drolet!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jonny Eroquo!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Elvis Blanc and Yves DeLean.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Drolet looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Drolet feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Eroquo's calf.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Eroquo.
Eroquo tries to score with some ground and pound. Drolet controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Drolet tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Eroquo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Drolet manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Drolet is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Drolet tries to pass the half guard into mount. Eroquo knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Drolet blocks the strikes from Eroquo.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Eroquo gets back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Eroquo wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Drolet wants to control from the top but Eroquo keeps moving.

Drolet throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Eroquo works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Eroquo is trying to control the position but Drolet postures up.
Eroquo is looking to stand up but Drolet isn't so interested in that idea.
Eroquo will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
No joy there for Eroquo, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Drolet tries to close the distance and clinch but Eroquo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Drolet throws a series of punches but Eroquo avoids them all with ease.
Eroquo throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

and Drolet counters with a nice double leg into side control. Eroquo won't be happy with that.

Drolet is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Eroquo knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Drolet advances to mount.
Eroquo's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Eroquo is looking to improve his position but Drolet isn't that keen on the idea.
Drolet breaks from Eroquo's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Drolet is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Drolet lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Eroquo has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Eroquo and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Eroquo fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Drolet checks it well.

Drolet feints and as Eroquo raises his hands in defense, Drolet changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Drolet thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Eroquo wants to stand up but Drolet is controlling him.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Eroquo lands a front kick.

Drolet scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Eroquo wants to clinch up but Drolet keeps it at a distance.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and Drolet decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Eroquo's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Eroquo controls Drolet momentarily but Drolet frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Eroquo has his takedown stuffed

Eroquo is refusing to be controlled, as Drolet sits in half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Drolet in particular looking to stall.
Eroquo is trying to maintain the position but Drolet is very close to passing his half guard.

Drolet is trying to work for a kimura but Eroquo is defending well.
Drolet looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Eroquo with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Eroquo is breathing heavily.

Andre Drolet overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Drolet is working for a submission of some sort.
Eroquo moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Drolet wants to control from the top but Eroquo keeps moving.
Drolet advances to half guard.
Eroquo tries to get to full guard but Drolet has control of the leg.
Drolet performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Drolet has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Eroquo is trying to maintain the position but Drolet is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Eroquo manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Drolet wants to pass the guard but Eroquo is keeping the position.

Eroquo had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Drolet is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Eroquo Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Drolet's back instead.

Eroquo is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Drolet. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.

Eroquo is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Eroquo gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Eroquo gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Eroquo apologises and we restart here on the feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Eroquo shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Drolet's guard.

Let's hope that Eroquo has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Eroquo gets to his feet. Drolet looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Drolet swats away the attempt to clinch by Eroquo.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Andre Drolet will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Andre Drolet is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Eroquo counters by moving into the clinch.
Oh Drolet is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Eroquo has the Thai clinch. He lands a big knee to the head that stumbles Drolet - he's in trouble! Another big knee to the head from Eroquo, and another! Drolet is out on his feet - the ref jumps in to save him and ends the fight!
