Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Riley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Edgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Riley might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Get Up. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Riley!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Edgar!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Bruno Lombardi and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riley slips a jab and a cross from Edgar.
A punch lands to the side of Edgar 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Riley scores with a shot to the body.
Riley lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Edgar at a distance.
Edgar slips under a jab from Riley.
Riley misses with a straight left.
Riley throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Edgar jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Riley throws a jab when Edgar was well out of range.
Riley avoids a punch combination nicely.
Edgar throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Riley counters with a straight right hand.
Edgar misses with a jab to the body
and Riley counters with a nice uppercut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Edgar throws a hook but Riley avoids it easily.

Riley swings for the body but Edgar moves out of range.

and Riley counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Riley lands a jab to the nose.


Edgar is rocked!
Frank Edgar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Edgar takes a swing at Riley's ribcage but misses.
No joy there for Riley, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Edgar is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Riley.
Riley throws a good cross that connects.
Riley is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Edgar throws a quick inside leg kick.
Riley looks to land a right hand but Edgar moved out of range.
Riley is looking to clinch but Edgar is avoiding it.
Edgar moves out of range as Riley strikes.
Edgar misses with a double jab
and Riley counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Riley connects with a right hand. Edgar shakes it off.
Edgar falls off balance throwing a combination
and Riley counters with a nice body shot.
Edgar looks gassed!
Riley connects with a crisp jab.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Riley blocks the body kick.
Riley shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Edgar pinned against the cage. Edgar gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Riley is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Riley scores with a sloppy right hand. Edgar should have avoided that one.
Riley shoots in looking for a takedown. Edgar tries to sprawl out of it but Riley keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Edgar manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Edgar throws the left hand but Riley avoids the punch easily.
Riley takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Riley!

Riley drops Edgar with a nice combination! Riley dives into Edgar's guard, looking to finish!
Edgar is still in real trouble! Can Riley finish him?
Riley postures up in Edgar's guard and throws a big left but Edgar blocks it.

Edgar seems to have recovered his senses.
Riley will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Edgar wants to stand but Riley is controlling the position.
Riley lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Edgar wants to stand and escape but Riley is having none of it.
Riley wants to control from the top but Edgar keeps moving.

and Riley counters with a straight right hand.
Edgar falls off balance throwing a combination
and Riley connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Edgar throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Good standup being displayed there by Riley as he connects with a hook.

Riley drops Edgar with a right and a left! Riley comes rushing in but Edgar regains his composure and manages to keep Riley in guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Edgar is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Riley dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A decent looking cross lands there for Riley.

Riley closes the distance and pushes Edgar back into the cage.
Riley tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Edgar has had enough of the clinch but Riley keeps him there for the moment.
Edgar keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Riley's efforts to push away.

Riley breaks from the clinch.
Riley misses with the combination.
Riley really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Riley throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Edgar was covering up waiting for the punch and Riley finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Riley's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Riley postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Edgar uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Riley displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Riley connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Edgar throws the kick towards the body but Riley avoids it.
Frank Edgar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Edgar avoids a punch combination nicely.
Edgar avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Edgar takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Riley tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Edgar fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Riley is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Edgar throws a jab when Riley was well out of range.
Edgar goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Edgar pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Riley blocks the body kick.
Riley tries to score a power double leg takedown but Edgar sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Riley somewhat.

A looping hook to the body misses from Edgar. Riley does a little dance to reset his feet.

Riley shoots in and bounces Edgar off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Riley wants to pass the guard but Edgar is keeping the position.

Riley is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Riley accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Edgar is looking to stand back up but Riley counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Edgar.
Riley is pressing down on Edgar's thigh, looking to free his foot. Edgar is holding on for now.
Edgar is trying to escape back to his feet but Riley uses the scramble to pass into side control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Riley throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Riley trying to control the position but Edgar is working away.
Riley is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Edgar can do to turn this around?
Edgar takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Riley wants to lay and pray for a moment but Edgar keeps working.
Riley tries to move into full mount but can't pass Edgar's legs.
Edgar is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Edgar tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Riley has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Edgar is breathing heavily.

Riley has managed to slip his arm under Edgar's chin. This could be all over... yep, Edgar is tapping out! Submission win for Riley.
