PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Devon J Scarborough (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Devon J Scarborough!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, John Mangel and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
A chopping leg kick lands by Johnson.

J Scarborough looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Johnson!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Johnson wants to get back to his feet.
Johnson tries to hold on but J Scarborough postures up.
Johnson wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Johnson breaks J Scarborough's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

J Scarborough is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Johnson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Johnson wants to control from the top but J Scarborough keeps moving.
J Scarborough has momentary wrist control but Johnson slips an elbow through the middle.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Johnson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on J Scarborough, up you get!
Jake Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Johnson fails with the takedown

and J Scarborough decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Johnson's guard.

J Scarborough gets to his feet - Johnson follows without any prompting.
Johnson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Johnson throws a series of strikes that have J Scarborough backpedaling.
J Scarborough tries for a takedown but Johnson circles away easily
and Johnson counters with a head kick. That will keep J Scarborough thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

and J Scarborough counters with a nice double leg into side control. Johnson won't be happy with that.
Johnson gets back to half guard.
Johnson wants to control but J Scarborough is keeping busy.
Johnson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
J Scarborough trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
J Scarborough is fighting to break Johnson's control of his arms but Johnson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson wants to sweep but no luck.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Johnson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. J Scarborough swivels though and keeps the full guard.

J Scarborough is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
J Scarborough wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Johnson has him pressed against the cage.

Johnson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Johnson tries to clinch up but J Scarborough circles away and keeps his distance.
Devon J Scarborough is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Johnson wants to clinch but J Scarborough slips to the side

and J Scarborough counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Johnson's guard now.

Johnson scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Johnson falls off balance throwing a combination

and J Scarborough counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

J Scarborough drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Johnson dives on top into guard.
Johnson's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Johnson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Johnson has closed the distance and engaged J Scarborough in a clinch.

Johnson is trying to force a seperation but J Scarborough has the dominant position.

Johnson breaks from the clinch.
Johnson throws a head kick that half lands.
Johnson lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Johnson throws a right and a left that both miss.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Johnson is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on J Scarborough's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Johnson wants to control but J Scarborough is keeping busy.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
J Scarborough tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Johnson regains full guard. Nicely done.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Johnson cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

J Scarborough wants to get back to full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Johnson wants to control but J Scarborough is keeping him busy.
Johnson is just content to waste time from the top position. J Scarborough takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
J Scarborough wants to stand but Johnson is controlling the position.
J Scarborough looking to hit a scissor sweep but Johnson is one step ahead there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Johnson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Devon J Scarborough showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for J Scarborough, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
