PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lassana Diarra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrice Evra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Lassana Diarra!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Patrice Evra!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Donald Grub and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Evra swats away the attempt to clinch by Diarra.

Diarra closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Evra pulls guard effortlessly.

Diarra stands up and waves to Evra to follow him.
Diarra really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Evra fails with a takedown attempt.
Diarra misses with a few strikes there.
Diarra misses with the combination.
Horrible takedown by Evra or perhaps it was just good defense by Diarra which made him look bad.
Evra looks gassed!
Diarra fails with an attempt to clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Evra.
Lassana Diarra has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Patrice Evra.
Diarra throws a head kick that misses.

Diarra looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Evra on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Evra has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Diarra is working away from the top position though.

Diarra stands up from half guard.
Diarra fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Evra.

Diarra shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Evra napping and manages to drive through into side control!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Diarra working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Evra is looking to regain half guard here but Diarra keeps moving and retains side control.
Diarra is looking to take a break and control but Evra is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Evra is looking to reverse the position.

Diarra happy to just control the position for now.

Diarra tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Diarra in side control lands a decent elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Diarra is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Evra has escaped the position, nice work there.

Diarra working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Diarra has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Evra tries to keep at a distance but Diarra has taken the fight into the clinch.
Evra goes for a takedown in the clinch but Diarra prevents it.
Diarra wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Evra has him pressed against the cage.

Diarra is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Evra can't fight it off and eventually Diarra manages to take the fight to the floor. Evra looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Evra tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Diarra counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Evra's guard now.

Diarra stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Diarra blocks a head kick by Evra.

Diarra shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Diarra was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Diarra get's back to his feet.

Diarra changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Evra looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Diarra decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Diarra drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Evra not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Diarra trying to control but Evra is working from the bottom.

Evra looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Evra keeping moving, preventing Diarra from controlling successfully.
Evra working a defensive guard here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Diarra wants to control from the top but Evra keeps moving.
Diarra has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Diarra moves into the clinch.

Diarra breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Evra tries to close the distance and clinch up but Diarra swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Diarra shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Evra manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Diarra lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Diarra passes into half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Diarra controlling the pace.
Diarra wants to pass to mount but Evra is defending the position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Diarra is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Diarra prevents Evra from improving his position.
Diarra wants to take a breather but Evra is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Diarra fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Evra, pushing him back against the cage.
Diarra tries to pull guard but Evra won't allow it.

Diarra breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Lassana Diarra is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Diarra looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Evra!

Diarra is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Evra has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Diarra tries to control but Evra wriggling away.

Diarra is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Evra tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Diarra paws at him with a jab and circles away.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Good standup being displayed there by Diarra as he connects with a hook.

Diarra clinches with his opponent.
Evra drops down looking for an ankle pick but Diarra pulls his leg out and moves away.

Diarra rushes Evra and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Diarra.
Evra wants to stall.

Diarra breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Diarra changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Evra looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Diarra wants to control but Evra is keeping him busy.

Diarra stands up and beckons Evra to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Diarra misses with a head kick.
A big right from Diarra misses.

Diarra moves into the clinch.
Diarra stops a takedown attempt from Evra.
The referee calls for Diarra to work.

Diarra has clasped his hands together around Evra's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Diarra is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Evra can do to turn this around?
Diarra grinds an elbow into Evra's temple.
Diarra remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Evra stops Diarra from passing to mount.

Evra wants to control but Diarra postures up.
Diarra wants to control but Evra is keeping him busy.

Evra wants to clinch but Diarra slips to the side

and Diarra counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Lassana Diarra overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Diarra trying to control the position from guard on top but Evra is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Diarra stands up and waves to Evra to follow him.
Diarra throws a body kick that misses.
Evra misses with a takedown attempt

so Diarra counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Diarra stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Evra swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Diarra passes Evra's left leg - he's now in half guard.
It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.

Diarra is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Evra defends it well.

Evra moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Evra keeping moving, preventing Diarra from controlling successfully.
Diarra is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Diarra sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Evra's guard.
Evra gets full guard.
Evra keeping full guard, as Diarra tries to pass.
Evra can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Diarra controls the pace.

Diarra trying to control the position from guard on top but Evra is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Diarra stands up from Evra's guard - Diarra perhaps looking for a knockout.
Evra looks to clinch

and Diarra counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Diarra trying to control but Evra is working from the bottom.
Diarra has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Evra is proving hard to escape from.

Evra has his feet on Diarra's thighs here. He's pushed Diarra off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Diarra screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
