Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Monya Katz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Matz Simon! The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Colin Fotheringham and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Simon lands a high kick!
Katz scores with a takedown into Simon's guard. Katz drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Simon dives on top into guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Simon wants to get up but he can't break Katz's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Katz lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Simon! Simon tries to hold on but Katz postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Katz looking to control but Simon is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Katz working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Katz is breathing heavily. Katz moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Simon has worked his arm free - good work by Simon!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Katz working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Simon is trying to control Katz's posture but Katz avoids it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Katz thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Katz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Katz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Simon is trying to control Katz's posture but Katz avoids it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Katz is looking to take a break and control but Simon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Simon holds on to Katz's head and controls the position momentarily. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Matz Simon will probably get the nod. That's time! Katz's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Simon moves out of range of the strikes. Simon with a poor takedown and Katz counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Simon! Simon wants to control but Katz is having none of it. Katz is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet! Katz blocks a head kick by Simon.
Simon scores with a takedown into Katz's guard. Katz is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Simon rolls with it to try and escape but Katz cranks on the arm and Simon is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
