Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joey Japan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thiago Barral (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joey Japan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thiago Barral!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Luis Engracia and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Japan drives through with a takedown into guard.
Japan sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Japan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Barral swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Japan won't allow Barral to sweep him here.
Japan postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Japan tries to stand but Barral is controlling from the bottom.

Barral has his foot on Japan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Japan works his way back into a safe position though.
Japan has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Barral had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Japan is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Barral Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Japan's back instead.

Japan drops back looking for a leg! Barral is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Barral manages to kick Japan off! Japan jumps back into Barral's guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Japan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Barral keeps working.

Japan moves nicely into side control.
Barral is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Japan shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Japan was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Japan lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Japan has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Barral.

Barral rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Japan looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Japan stands up and beckons Barral to join him on the feet.

Japan throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Barral lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Barral throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Japan wants to control from the top but Barral keeps moving.
Japan passes Barral's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Japan is looking for a kimura but Barral is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Japan to get the leverage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Japan is trying to control the action in half guard but Barral is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Japan counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Barral!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Japan is looking to clinch but Barral is avoiding it.

and Barral decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Japan's guard.
Japan is trying to control the position but Barral postures up.
Japan has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Japan wants to stand and escape but Barral is having none of it.

Barral tries to free his leg and advance position but Japan is retaining full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Japan is pulling down on Barral's head to control his posture.
Japan is looking to stand up but Barral isn't so interested in that idea.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Japan looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Barral is fending him off so far but Japan persists. Nope, Barral circles away and we're back to standing.

Japan shoots in and bounces Barral off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Japan stays in close to Barral's body and controls the position.

Japan decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Barral, up you get!

Japan wants to pass the guard but Barral is keeping the position.

Barral working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Japan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Japan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Barral escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Japan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

I would just about give that final round to Thiago Barral.
I think Japan has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
