Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, Pepe Mendoza! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Quincy Jackson! The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Joseph Jones and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jackson shoots for a double leg takedown but Mendoza sprawls well. He's pushed Jackson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Mendoza leaves Jackson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Mendoza looks to score with a jab to the body but Jackson is just out of range. Mendoza chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Jackson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Jackson is looking to clinch. Mendoza shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Mendoza showed some decent athleticism there. Mendoza passes to side control. You can see the frustration on Jackson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Mendoza thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mendoza is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jackson has escaped the position, nice work there. Mendoza working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Jackson wants to control but Mendoza postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Sloppy strikes there by Mendoza. Mendoza tries to advance to mount but Jackson denies him. Mendoza working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Mendoza is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jackson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Jackson isn't going anywhere. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Jackson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. The strikes coming from Mendoza are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Mendoza tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Mendoza looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Jackson is avoiding damage well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Mendoza in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Mendoza is working to tighten is grip on Jackson's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Jackson has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Mendoza is really squeezing tight and eventually Jackson passes out! Mendoza breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
