PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Deshawn Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Knopfler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Deshawn Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mark Knopfler!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Bruno Lombardi and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Knopfler fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
A combination from Jackson does no damage.

Jackson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Jackson content just to control the position here.
Jackson is trying to take his opponent's back.
Knopfler wants to hold on but Jackson pushes him away.
Knopfler is squirming around, avoiding Jackson's attempts to control the action.
Knopfler really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Knopfler is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Knopfler tries to lock up and control but Jackson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Knopfler is looking to get to half guard.
Jackson throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Jackson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jackson avoids the attempt from Knopfler to control.
Knopfler gets back to half guard.
Jackson is breathing heavily.

Knopfler is controlling Jackson's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Jackson stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Knopfler to get to his feet.

Jackson moves in looking to clinch but Knopfler pushes him off.
Jackson wants to clinch up but Knopfler keeps it at a distance.
Jackson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Knopfler swivels and escapes.

Jackson scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Jackson.
Jackson looking to control but instead Knopfler has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Jackson tries to stand and escape but Knopfler is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Knopfler throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Jackson.

and Jackson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Knopfler won't be happy with that.

Jackson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Knopfler, who protects the arm well.
Knopfler is not content to let Jackson control the position.

Knopfler is breathing heavily.

Knopfler is trying to buck Jackson off.
Jackson connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Knopfler some visible discomfort.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jackson misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Knopfler is trying to get back to half guard.
Jackson trying to control the position but Knopfler is working away.
Knopfler is looking to regain half guard here but Jackson keeps moving and retains side control.

Jackson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Knopfler to his feet.

Jackson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Jackson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Knopfler is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Jackson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Jackson's back!

Knopfler is working for a rear naked choke. Jackson is not defending it well and Knopfler has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Jackson refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Jackson's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Mark Knopfler!
