0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, David Melkonyan! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Igor Prikhodko and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice sprawl there from Melkonyan as Stalin shoots in. Melkonyan tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Stalin paws at him with a jab and circles away. Melkonyan tries to clinch but Stalin is having none of it. David Melkonyan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A decent looking body kick lands there for Stalin. Stalin looks for a takedown but Melkonyan sprawls well. Melkonyan tries to clinch up. Stalin throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Melkonyan was covering up waiting for the punch and Stalin finishes the takedown easily into guard. Stalin stays in close to Melkonyan's body and controls the position. Stalin throws a strike but Melkonyan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Melkonyan preventing the sweep.

He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Stalin not landing any meaningful shots this time. Stalin is looking for a kimura but Melkonyan is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Stalin to get the leverage. Stalin stands up from half guard... Melkonyan tries to score a body lock takedown but Stalin shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Melkonyan tries to throw a body punch but Stalin avoids it by throwing Melkonyan back against the cage. Melkonyan stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body. Melkonyan looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Melkonyan looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Melkonyan!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Stalin is trying to improve his position. David Melkonyan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Stalin struggling a bit here. Sloppy strikes there by Melkonyan. Melkonyan in side control, throwing shots but Stalin defends. Joseph Stalin is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Melkonyan looks up at the clock and then as Stalin takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Melkonyan smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Joseph Stalin. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Stalin, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
