Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dan Quinn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jericho Datu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jericho Datu told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dan Quinn! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jericho Datu! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Quinn. Datu scores with a takedown into Quinn's guard. Datu has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Quinn is proving hard to escape from. Quinn looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Quinn looking for a guillotine here but Datu defends easily.
Datu looking to pass the guard. Datu working some strikes from top position. Quinn has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Datu can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Datu trying to control the position from guard on top but Quinn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's one minute gone in the round. Datu trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Datu throws and elbow that misses. Quinn uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Datu's guard. Nice move by Quinn! Quinn is fighting to break Datu's control of his arms but Datu is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Quinn trying to control but Datu is working from the bottom. Datu is trying to keep Quinn in close.
Datu wants to sweep but no luck.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Datu scores with a crisp jab that stopped Quinn in his tracks. Quinn looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Datu! Datu is wriggling around trying to escape.
Datu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Quinn. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Quinn manages to capitalize on a mistake by Datu to take his back! Quinn looking to hold on to the position here but Datu rolls and ends up regaining guard.
Datu has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Quinn can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Datu looks gassed! Datu manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Datu is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Quinn has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Quinn! Quinn tries to stand but Datu is controlling from the bottom. Quinn scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Quinn wants to get up but he can't break Datu's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Quinn distracts Datu with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Datu is trying to keep Quinn in close.
Quinn is looking to work some ground and pound but Datu has wrist control. Quinn pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Datu is keeping the position for now. Quinn wants to control from the top but Datu keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Datu feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Quinn pushes a forearm under Datu's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Datu is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Dan Quinn! Dan Quinn is the new lightweight champion!
