Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Darnell Jefferson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, George St Pierre! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Taro Takaoka and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jefferson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jefferson showed some decent athleticism there. Jefferson trying to control the action but St Pierre is working from the bottom. St Pierre looking for submissions off his back. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! St Pierre moves into full guard.
Jefferson won't allow St Pierre to sweep him here. St Pierre is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. St Pierre looking for a sweep. Not yet St Pierre, not yet. Jefferson passes into half guard. Jefferson works his way into full mount! Jefferson lands a big shot there that rocks St Pierre but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jefferson controlling the pace for now. St Pierre defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Jefferson. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jefferson is working for a guillotine from mount but St Pierre frees his head quite easily.
St Pierre is in all sorts of trouble here.
Jefferson trying to control but he's not successful this time. Jefferson prevents St Pierre from getting the reversal. St Pierre regains half guard. Jefferson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Jefferson works his foot free and advances to mount. Jefferson is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. St Pierre is looking to get to half guard. Jefferson cracks St Pierre with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
St Pierre regains half guard. St Pierre wants to get back to full guard. St Pierre taking some punishment here, with Jefferson in his half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jefferson is working for a kimura but St Pierre is defending it quite comfortably.
St Pierre tries to get to full guard but Jefferson has control of the leg. St Pierre makes his way to full guard. A much better position for St Pierre. Jefferson trying to control the position from guard on top but St Pierre is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Jefferson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. St Pierre swivels though and keeps the full guard. St Pierre looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
St Pierre is looking to sinch up a triangle. Jefferson throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to St Pierre's body to avoid the submission. St Pierre has instead reached around Jefferson's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! St Pierre arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
