PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Milani (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Jakes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Milani's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Armin Van Buuren-Sail. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Anthony Taglia and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Milani fails in his attempt to clinch.
Jakes should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Milani closes the distance and clinches.
Milani is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Jakes pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Jakes keeping moving, preventing Milani from controlling successfully.
Jakes has his hands on Milani's head, controlling the position.
Jakes wants to stand but Milani is controlling the position.
Milani sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Jakes's guard.
Milani frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Jakes wants to control but Milani is having none of it.

Milani wants to control the pace but Jakes is squirming around nicely.
Milani blocks Jakes's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Jakes shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jakes showed some decent athleticism there.

Jakes keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Milani's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Milani is pulling down on Jakes's head. It's preventing any offense from Jakes, at least for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Milani wants to stand but Jakes is controlling the position.

That was a close round but I would say that Mauricio Milani will probably get the nod.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Milani throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Milani tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jakes smiles and moves away.

Jakes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Milani looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Mauricio Milani seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jakes gets a clinch.
Jakes tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Milani's elbow.
Milani lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Milani tries for a takedown but Jakes manages to get underhooks.

Jakes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Jakes shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Milani's guard.

Milani is looking for a triangle but Jakes pushes his legs off easily.
Jakes slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Jakes takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Milani is refusing to be controlled, as Jakes sits in half guard.
Jakes seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Jakes is nestled in close to Milani, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jakes wanted to stand there but Milani had control of the position.
Milani is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

and Jakes counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Milani!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mauricio Milani.
