PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Noriaki Ueyama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drago Mann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Noriaki Ueyama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Drago Mann!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yukihiro Shimada and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mann pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Ueyama clinches up against the cage.
Mann jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ueyama walks away with a smile on his face. Mann gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Mann fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Mann closes the distance and clinches up with Ueyama, looking for a takedown. Mann pushes Ueyama against the cage but Ueyama circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Noriaki Ueyama has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Drago Mann.
Mann blocks a head kick by Ueyama.

Ueyama closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Mann tries to roll over but Ueyama keeps him under control.
Mann is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ueyama stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Mann to get to his feet.

Mann wants to hold on but Ueyama pushes him away.

Mann looks to clinch

and Ueyama counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Mann is trying to force a seperation but Ueyama has the dominant position.
Mann tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ueyama smiles and moves away.

and Ueyama counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ueyama accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Ueyama wants to pass the guard but Mann is keeping the position.

Ueyama has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Mann is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ueyama has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ueyama throws a series of punches but Mann moves out of range.

Ueyama closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mann did well to prevent Ueyama getting side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Ueyama decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Mann's guard.

Ueyama is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Ueyama changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mann looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Ueyama takes a little break here. Mann wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Ueyama seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Mann for as long as he can get away with.

Ueyama is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mann knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Ueyama lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Mann down.
Noriaki Ueyama overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee asks Ueyama politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Ueyama prefers to stall for the moment though.

Ueyama shoots in and bounces Mann off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Ueyama is trying to work for a kimura but Mann is defending well.
Mann wants to improve his position but Ueyama is controlling well.
Mann wants to control the action here but instead Ueyama manages to pass to full mount!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Ueyama looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Ueyama seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Mann takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Mann wants to get back to his feet.

Ueyama wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Mann, who protects the arm well.
Ueyama is staying tight to Mann's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Mann is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Ueyama's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Mann is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ueyama is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mann can do to turn this around?

Well Ueyama has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
