The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Jorge Garcia and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter misses with a wild combination.
Gelato tries to clinch there but Carter circles away.
Carter dives in and grabs Gelato's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gelato pushes down on Carter's head and hops out.
Gelato shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

and Gelato counters with a nice double leg into side control. Carter won't be happy with that.

and Gelato decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Carter's guard.
Carter can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gelato controls the pace.
Carter is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gelato defends well.

Anewt Gelato overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Carter's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Carter tries to hold on but Gelato postures up.

Carter is bucking up trying to escape but Gelato cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gelato trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Carter tries to reverse the position but Gelato maintains control.

Gelato is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Carter has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Gelato wants to control the pace but Carter is squirming around nicely.
Carter manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Carter has one foot on Gelato's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Carter shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Carter was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Carter's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Carter is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Carter tries to get the hooks in deep but Gelato pushed the leg off.
