Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Quinton Hach! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Brian Baumgardner! The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Ren Mimura and Kenichi Hosakawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Baumgardner will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Baumgardner shoots for a takedown but Hach saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Baumgardner misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Hach throws a hook but Baumgardner blocks it. Baumgardner will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Quinton Hach has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian Baumgardner. Hach throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Baumgardner. Baumgardner shoots in for a takedown but Hach shows good takedown defense. Hach throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Baumgardner throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Brian Baumgardner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hach fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Baumgardner on the side of the head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hach tries to clinch up. Hach connects with a nice looking jab.
Baumgardner fails to land the takedown. Baumgardner looks gassed! Baumgardner is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Hach.
That's one minute gone in the round. Baumgardner looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Hach throws a jab but it's blocked by Baumgardner. Hach rushes Baumgardner and presses him up against the ropes. Baumgardner managing to block the knees to the body from Hach.
Hach breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Baumgardner will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Hach fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Baumgardner, pushing him back against the ropes. Hach manages to break the clinch.
Hach lands a slapping body shot.
Hach has closed the distance and engaged Baumgardner in a clinch.
Baumgardner fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Baumgardner tries to pull guard but Hach holds him up against the ropes and eventually Baumgardner drops back down to his feet.
Hach breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Hach clinches up with Baumgardner and pushes him back against the ropes. Hach gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Baumgardner.
Hach breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hach throws a good cross that connects.
Hach falls off balance throwing a combination
and Baumgardner counters with a nice double leg into guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Hach manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Baumgardner is looking to get to half guard. Hach throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Baumgardner is trying to escape the mount.
Baumgardner is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Baumgardner regains half guard. Hach missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Baumgardner is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Hach pulls his head out easily. Baumgardner looking for submissions off his back. Baumgardner is trying to get back to full guard. Baumgardner is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hach's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hach's back! Hach looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands. Baumgardner working for a choke but Hach is defending well. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Hach is trying to get back to his feet but Baumgardner has full control of the position and if anything, Hach has just worked his way into a worse spot.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hach tries to roll but Baumgardner sticks to his back.
Baumgardner is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Hach has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Baumgardner looking to break Hach's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Hach remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Baumgardner will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Hach knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Baumgardner on the ground. Hach wants to get back to his feet. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Baumgardner is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Hach won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Baumgardner off his unconscious opponent!
