PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Arellanes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brock Lesnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mauricio Arellanes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brock Lesnar!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Wesley Smith and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lesnar throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Brock Lesnar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Arellanes fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Lesnar has closed the distance and engaged Arellanes in a clinch.
Arellanes is trying to drag Lesnar to the mat but Lesnar just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Arellanes drops down looking for an ankle pick but Lesnar pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mauricio Arellanes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Arellanes shoots in looking for a takedown. Lesnar tries to sprawl out of it but Arellanes keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Lesnar manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Arellanes shoots in but Lesnar avoids the takedown attempt easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Arellanes shoots in for a takedown but Lesnar shows good takedown defense.

Arellanes ducks under a wild hook from Lesnar.
Lesnar misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Arellanes avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Arellanes shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Arellanes frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Lesnar is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Arellanes wants to finish this one by submission but Lesnar is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Arellanes.

Arellanes is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Lesnar is surviving well by controlling Arellanes's body position as best he can.

Arellanes is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Lesnar has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Arellanes is breathing heavily.
Arellanes avoids the attempt from Lesnar to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lesnar's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Lesnar is squirming around, avoiding Arellanes's attempts to control the action.
Lesnar trying desperately to get to his feet.

Arellanes working for a guillotine from mount but Lesnar is in no mood to give up.
Lesnar wants to get back to his feet.

Arellanes working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Arellanes has hold of Lesnar's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Lesnar manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Lesnar looks out of his depth in this position - he's holding on tight.
Lesnar trying desperately to get to his feet.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Arellanes can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Lesnar is looking to escape.
Arellanes avoids the attempt from Lesnar to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Arellanes with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Arellanes jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Lesnar is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Lesnar and Arellanes has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Lesnar is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Arellanes has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Arellanes is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lesnar is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Arellanes looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Lesnar really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Arellanes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Arellanes tries for a kimura but Lesnar is defending well.
Lesnar is trying to buck Arellanes off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mauricio Arellanes will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Arellanes shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lesnar as he jumps to the side.

Arellanes gets a takedown into half guard.
Arellanes is pressing down on Lesnar's thigh, looking to free his foot. Lesnar is holding on for now.
Arellanes stops Lesnar from getting back to his feet.

Lesnar kicks off Arellanes and gets to his feet.
Lesnar has his takedown stuffed

and Arellanes counters with a nice double leg into side control. Lesnar won't be happy with that.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Arellanes tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Lesnar is pushing Arellanes's head away, looking to escape. Arellanes manages to hold on to the position though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Arellanes tries to move to mount but Lesnar blocks the move with his legs.

Arellanes looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Lesnar is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Lesnar manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Arellanes shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Lesnar counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Lesnar scoring with some ground and pound.
Arellanes lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Lesnar!

Arellanes jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Lesnar manages to avoid the submission attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Lesnar throws Arellanes to one side and escapes!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Arellanes closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Arellanes is looking for a kimura here.
Lesnar tries to kick Arellanes off but Arellanes keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Lesnar wants to improve his position but Arellanes is controlling well.
Lesnar is trying to stand back up but Arellanes is controlling him

Arellanes has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Lesnar defend it? Arellanes steps over the head and cranks it - Lesnar is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Arellanes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:01 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Mauricio Arellanes!
