Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Wesley Van Overeem! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Ryoko! The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Paul Aken and Saam Ante.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Van Overeem misses with a few strikes there.
Van Overeem tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ryoko swats him away and circles back towards the center. Van Overeem swings away with a leg kick that misses. Ryoko circles away from the clinch attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ryoko. Wesley Van Overeem seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Van Overeem tries to bum rush Ryoko with a series of wild strikes but Ryoko uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Van Overeem lands a jab-cross combination.
It looks like John Ryoko has been cut. Van Overeem throws a right and a left that Ryoko avoids nicely. Van Overeem gets a takedown into half guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Ryoko blocking the ground and pound attempt from Van Overeem. Ryoko won't allow Van Overeem to pass to mount. Ryoko pushes Van Overeem off looking to stand but Van Overeem dives back in and keeps control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Van Overeem has his takedown stuffed and Ryoko decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Van Overeem's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Van Overeem wants to stand up but Ryoko is controlling him. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ryoko landing with the ground and pound. Ryoko stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Van Overeem swivels though and keeps the full guard. Ryoko drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Van Overeem manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Ryoko has Van Overeem in his guard. Ryoko working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Van Overeem doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Van Overeem manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Ryoko is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Van Overeem trying to control but Ryoko is working from the bottom. Van Overeem drops back looking for a leg! Ryoko is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ryoko manages to kick Van Overeem off! Van Overeem jumps back into Ryoko's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Van Overeem got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ryoko has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Van Overeem has managed to get both his arms back between Ryoko's legs - danger averted. Ryoko keeping moving, preventing Van Overeem from controlling successfully. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Van Overeem is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ryoko is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryoko tries to clinch and Van Overeem counters with a left and a right that stings Ryoko. Van Overeem gets in close and instigates a clinch. Van Overeem goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ryoko prevents it.

Ryoko has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Van Overeem avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Wesley Van Overeem has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Ryoko. Ryoko is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Van Overeem pulls him back up using the underhooks. Van Overeem escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Van Overeem throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Ryoko sees it coming and avoids it easily. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Ryoko shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Van Overeem as he jumps to the side. Wesley Van Overeem is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
That's one minute gone in the round. Van Overeem tries for a takedown but Ryoko circles away easily and Ryoko counters with a nice double leg into side control. Van Overeem won't be happy with that. Van Overeem is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Ryoko is controlling him well. Ryoko should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Ryoko working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Van Overeem wants to get back to his feet. Ryoko tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Ryoko has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Van Overeem wants to stand up but Ryoko is controlling him. Ryoko drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Van Overeem dives on top into guard. And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to John Ryoko. I think Ryoko has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
