Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joe Dudley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Evan Phillips!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, John Mangel and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Phillips tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Dudley paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Phillips tries to clinch up but Dudley circles away and keeps his distance.
Phillips avoids a punch combination nicely.
Phillips connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Dudley fails with a takedown attempt.
Phillips lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Dudley at a distance.
Dudley takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

Dudley closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Dudley tries to move to mount but Phillips blocks the move with his legs.
An elbow from Dudley crashes against the mat.
Phillips is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Dudley asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Phillips parries the strikes from Dudley easily there. Dudley is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Phillips to escape.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Dudley wants to control but Phillips is keeping him busy.

Dudley decides to stand up, so the ref orders Phillips to his feet.
Dudley takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Phillips scores with a hook.

Phillips pushes Dudley up against the cage in a clinch.
Phillips is working for takedown but Dudley is calmly controlling the position for now.
Dudley takes an elbow to the temple.
Dudley drops down looking for an ankle pick but Phillips pulls his leg out and moves away.
Phillips stuffs the takedown attempt from Dudley. Dudley gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Dudley. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Phillips circles away from the clinch attempt.

Phillips has closed the distance and engaged Dudley in a clinch.

Phillips's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Dudley moves in looking to clinch but Phillips pushes him off.
Dudley throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Phillips's waist but Phillips gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dudley off to one side.
Evan Phillips is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Dudley throws a sloppy head kick and Phillips moves out of range easily.
Danga de danga de dang - Phillips scores with a four punch combination!
Phillips tries to clinch but Dudley moves out of range.

Phillips closes the distance and clinches.
Dudley jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Phillips walks away with a smile on his face. Dudley gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
A slapping body kick lands there for Phillips.
Dudley is breathing heavily.

Phillips clinches up against the cage.
Phillips connects with a nasty looking knee right to Dudley's face.
The referee is keeping an eye on Phillips - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Phillips's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Dudley circles away from the clinch attempt.
Phillips tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dudley swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Dudley fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Phillips sprawls well initially but Dudley persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Phillips can do anything to dispel that myth.
Dudley takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Dudley thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Dudley not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Well, if Dudley is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Evan Phillips dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Phillips misses with a series of wild punches.
Phillips throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Dudley.
Phillips tries to clinch up but Dudley circles away and keeps his distance.

Phillips pushes Dudley up against the cage in a clinch.

Phillips escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A punch combination from Dudley misses.
Dudley fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Phillips throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Dudley has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Dudley keeps the fight on the outside.
Joe Dudley is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Phillips is breathing heavily.

Dudley closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Phillips to the mat! Phillips manages to get full guard.
Dudley sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Phillips's guard.

Dudley is working for a submission of some sort.
Dudley controlling the action here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Dudley is looking for a kimura but Phillips is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Dudley to get the leverage.
Dudley performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Phillips keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dudley is taking a breather. Phillips says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Dudley moves into full mount! Phillips won't be happy about that!
Phillips really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dudley. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Dudley tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Dudley throws a lazy body kick
and Phillips counters with a one-two to the body.
A head kick from Phillips lands but Dudley takes it in his stride.
Phillips blocks the body kick.
Phillips fails with an attempt to clinch.
Both fighters circling a little - Phillips finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Dudley shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Dudley showed some decent athleticism there.

Dudley decides to stand up.
Phillips keeps Dudley at a distance using the push kick.
Dudley tries to clinch but Phillips is having none of it.
Phillips takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Phillips lands a head kick!

Dudley closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Dudley is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Phillips is trying to escape and Dudley transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Phillips is forced to tap! Nice work there by Dudley! Very nice indeed!
