1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Henry Goethe! The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Steve Montenegro and Eddie Farnsworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Goethe displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
It looks like John St Pierre has been cut. Goethe shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts St Pierre as he jumps to the side. Goethe feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Goethe wants to control from the top but St Pierre keeps moving. Goethe controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. St Pierre looking for a sweep. Not yet St Pierre, not yet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. St Pierre has his takedown stuffed and Goethe counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Goethe stalling away here and it's allowed St Pierre to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. St Pierre is looking for a triangle here but Goethe uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

St Pierre wants to control the position but Goethe says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Goethe is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Goethe is taking a breather. St Pierre says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. St Pierre is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Goethe decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

St Pierre looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. You can see the frustration on St Pierre's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. St Pierre is looking to regain half guard here but Goethe keeps moving and retains side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. St Pierre is working hard here to advance position. Goethe stands up and we're back to a striking position. Goethe gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. St Pierre manages to pull guard.
