PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Takeo Manabu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kyron Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Manabu kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Heavy Metal is my Way by Metalucifer. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takeo Manabu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kyron Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shigeki Sano and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Manabu listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Manabu throws a looping overhand right but Gracie ducks down to avoid it.
Takeo Manabu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Manabu lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Gracie fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Gracie dives in and grabs Manabu's left leg, looking for a takedown. Manabu pushes down on Gracie's head and hops out.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Manabu shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gracie manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Manabu tries to free his leg and advance position but Gracie is retaining full guard.

Gracie working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Manabu has passed into half guard!
Manabu seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Manabu seems to be working for a kimura but Gracie defends the submission attempt.

Gracie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Manabu gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Manabu drops back looking for a leg! Gracie is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gracie manages to kick Manabu off! Manabu jumps back into Gracie's guard.

Gracie is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Manabu defends well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Manabu counters with a left and a right that stings Gracie.

so Manabu counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Manabu is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Gracie has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Manabu can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Manabu postures up in Gracie's guard and throws a big left but Gracie blocks it.

Gracie throws his legs up looking for a submission but Manabu uses it to pass to side control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Manabu wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gracie keeps working.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Manabu has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Gracie wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Manabu controlling well, preventing Gracie from escaping the position.

Manabu is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Manabu looking to break Gracie's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Gracie remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Manabu will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Gracie manages to reverse the position and now he's in Manabu's guard. Nice work there by Gracie.

Gracie wants to control from the top but Manabu keeps moving.

Gracie postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Manabu is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gracie, into his guard.
Manabu passes into half guard.

Manabu is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Takeo Manabu dominated that second round.
That's time! Manabu's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Gracie with a poor takedown

and Manabu counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Manabu wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving.

Gracie has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Manabu is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gracie.

Gracie manages to get back to half guard.

Gracie is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Manabu is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Manabu has escaped and now he's on top!

Takeo Manabu showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Manabu has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
