PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fedor Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adrik Bogdanov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Emelianenko has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Adrik Bogdanov will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Emelianenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Adrik Bogdanov!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Illya Tyunina and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Bogdanov does no damage.
Emelianenko looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Bogdanov shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Bogdanov is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Bogdanov with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Bogdanov is working for a kimura but Emelianenko is defending it quite comfortably.
Bogdanov is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Emelianenko!

Bogdanov looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Bogdanov wants to control the pace but Emelianenko is squirming around nicely.

Bogdanov is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Emelianenko can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Emelianenko is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Bogdanov avoids the attempt from Emelianenko to control.
Bogdanov manages to capitalize on a mistake by Emelianenko to take his back!
Bogdanov is trying to stick to Emelianenko's back but Emelianenko is turning into Bogdanov. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Bogdanov's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Emelianenko.
Bogdanov has a closed guard, preventing Emelianenko from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bogdanov wants to stand and escape but Emelianenko is having none of it.
Bogdanov is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Emelianenko won't allow Bogdanov to get back to his feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bogdanov fails with an attempt to clinch.
Emelianenko gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Bogdanov counters with a one-two to the body.
Emelianenko misses with a takedown
and Bogdanov counters with a left and a right that stings Emelianenko.
Bogdanov lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Bogdanov throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Emelianenko's waist but Emelianenko gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bogdanov off to one side.
Emelianenko tries for a takedown but Bogdanov sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fedor Emelianenko. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Emelianenko looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Bogdanov is trying to stand.

Emelianenko is looking to take a break and control but Bogdanov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Adrik Bogdanov dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Emelianenko pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Bogdanov doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Emelianenko counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Bogdanov moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Bogdanov is working an open guard so Emelianenko takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Emelianenko shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bogdanov as he jumps to the side.
Emelianenko fails with an attempt to clinch.

Emelianenko feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Emelianenko decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Bogdanov, up you get!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bogdanov shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Bogdanov showed some decent athleticism there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Emelianenko wants to control but Bogdanov is keeping busy.

Bogdanov wants to stand up but Emelianenko is controlling the position.
Emelianenko is looking to escape.
Bogdanov trying to control the action but Emelianenko is working from the bottom.
Emelianenko moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Bogdanov wants to control from the top but Emelianenko keeps moving.
Emelianenko looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bogdanov wants to stand but Emelianenko is controlling his posture from full guard.

Emelianenko is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Emelianenko wants to sweep but no luck.

Bogdanov drops back, looking for a kneebar! Emelianenko looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Emelianenko looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Emelianenko!

Emelianenko creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Bogdanov tries to improve position but can't.

Fedor Emelianenko overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Bogdanov is trying to maintain the position but Emelianenko is very close to passing his half guard.

Bogdanov is trying to control but can't.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Emelianenko dodges the punch combination from Bogdanov.
Bogdanov tries to bum rush Emelianenko with a series of wild strikes but Emelianenko uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Emelianenko closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Bogdanov did well to prevent Emelianenko getting side control.

Bogdanov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Emelianenko is working away from the top position though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Emelianenko has his foot on Bogdanov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bogdanov works his way back into a safe position though.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Fedor Emelianenko showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Emelianenko has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
