Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jason Jerabek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Sterner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Jerabek! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dave Sterner! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Cecil Peabody and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sterner scores with a takedown into Jerabek's guard. Sterner trying to control the position from guard on top but Jerabek is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Jerabek trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Sterner tries to stand but Jerabek is controlling from the bottom. Sterner preventing the sweep. Jerabek controls Sterner momentarily but Sterner frees himself. Sterner must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Sterner preventing the sweep. Jerabek lands a decent shot there. Jerabek lands a decent shot there.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Jerabek clinches with his opponent.
Jerabek has Sterner pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Sterner manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Jerabek creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses. Sterner jumps guard but Jerabek stands there with Sterner around his waist. Sterner gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Sterner pulls guard effortlessly. Jerabek trying to control the position from guard on top but Sterner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Jerabek stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sterner swivels though and keeps the full guard. Jerabek passes into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sterner regains full guard. Nicely done. Jerabek wants to control from the top but Sterner keeps moving. Sterner looking for a sweep. Not yet Sterner, not yet. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sterner can do anything to dispel that myth. Jerabek in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Sterner throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Sterner swinging wildly here.
Jerabek scores with a one two! Sterner had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Sterner throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Jerabek. Nice sprawl there from Sterner as Jerabek shoots in. Jerabek has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Sterner. Sterner tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Sterner shoots in looking for a takedown. Jerabek tries to sprawl out of it but Sterner keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jerabek manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. A nice combination there by Jerabek.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Jerabek tries to clinch up. Sterner fails with a takedown attempt. Jason Jerabek has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dave Sterner. Sterner fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jerabek, pushing him back against the cage. Sterner wants a takedown but no success here.
Sterner wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Jerabek wants a takedown but no success here.
Jerabek creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses. Jerabek changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Sterner fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Sterner tries to clinch up and Jerabek counters with a nice double leg into side control. Sterner won't be happy with that. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Sterner looking for a sweep but Jerabek has passed into full mount! Oh no! Jerabek looking to control but Sterner is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Jerabek is landing with some decent strikes but Sterner is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Sterner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jerabek. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Sterner can't escape the position.
Jerabek has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Jerabek connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jerabek lands a big elbow. Jerabek trying to control but Sterner is having none of it. Jerabek with shots to the head and body - Sterner looks very uncomfortable down there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sterner is looking to get to half guard. Sterner is bucking up trying to escape but Jerabek cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Jerabek postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Sterner looks a forlorn figure.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Jerabek looking to isolate an arm here. Sterner doesn't see it coming and as Jerabek extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Jerabek!
