Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dwayne Hicks ! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nunu Brice! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Stewart Dunkirk and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Brice misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
The fight stays on the outside here - Brice looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Brice is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Brice. Hicks throws a one two combo.
Hicks misses with an uppercut. Hicks ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Hicks stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hicks wants it to stay on the feet. Hicks gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Brice to score an easy takedown into full guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hicks wants to stand but Brice is controlling the position. Brice throws a big right hand that misses. Hicks is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Brice is controlling him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Brice wants to control from the top but Hicks keeps moving. Brice must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Brice won't allow Hicks to get back to his feet.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Hicks pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Brice throws a left and a right that both miss
and Hicks counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Brice throws a nice looking combination but Hicks bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Brice throws a right and a left that both miss. An inside leg kick from Hicks misses. Brice is looking to land body kicks. Hicks tries to work over Brice's front leg with a kick but Brice checks it. Hicks scores with a decent looking hook. Brice moves out of range of the strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Brice goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Hicks throws a lazy right hand but Brice sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Brice with a nice cross. Brice misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Dwayne Hicks is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Hicks misses with a combination
and Brice counters with a lovely shot to the body. Brice thows a body shot but no joy. Hicks takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Hicks is breathing heavily. Hicks throws a chopping leg kick but Brice manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Hicks does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Hicks misses with the combination.
Brice lands with a big left! Hicks is wobbled badly! Brice comes in with a flurry of punches and drops Hicks to the floor. The ref jumps in to save him from unneccessary punishment.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Nunu Brice! Nunu Brice is the new middleweight champion!
