Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ian Larson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Syd Barret (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Larson comes to the cage accompanied by Manboy by Erik Saede. Barret has chosen Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ian Larson! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Syd Barret! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Cecil Peabody and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Barret throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Larson. Larson slaps away a takedown attempt from Barret, before circling back to the center of the mat. Larson misses with a takedown attempt - Barret sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Larson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Barret as he avoids it easily. Larson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Larson showed some decent athleticism there. Larson not doing much here.
Larson lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Larson trying to mount his opponent but Barret defends it. Barret wants to control but Larson is keeping busy and won't allow it. Barret has one foot on Larson's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Larson takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Larson takes a shot right to the bread basket. Larson is breathing heavily. Barret works over Larson's head and body with a nice combination. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Barret scores with a three punch combo!
Larson shoots for a double leg takedown but Barret sprawls well. He's pushed Larson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ian Larson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Barret scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Barret misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Danga de danga de dang - Barret scores with a four punch combination! The fight stays on the outside here - Barret looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Barret fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Larson sprawls well initially but Barret persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Barret scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Larson is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Barret scores with a couple of nice shots. Barret wants to control but Larson is keeping him busy. Larson blocking the ground and pound attempt from Barret.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Barret throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Barret looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Larson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Nice strikes from Barret there. Barret thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Larson wants to get back to his feet.
Barret scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Barret has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Barret throwing shots but Larson is blocking nicely. Barret is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Larson is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Syd Barret! Syd Barret retains his super heavyweight title!
