PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Simon Calmanius (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mamed Khalidov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Simon Calmanius!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mamed Khalidov!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Calmanius throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Khalidov's waist but Khalidov gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Calmanius off to one side.
Calmanius shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Khalidov but Khalidov pushes him off and we're back to square one.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Khalidov lands a shot to the head.
Khalidov lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.

Calmanius breaks Khalidov's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Calmanius is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Khalidov controls Calmanius momentarily but Calmanius frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Calmanius works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Khalidov wants to get back to full guard but Calmanius has passed into side control.
Calmanius throws some wild stikes that Khalidov manages to avoid easily.

Calmanius postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Khalidov to stand up.
Calmanius thumps Khalidov with a low kick.
Calmanius could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

and Calmanius counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Calmanius has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Khalidov is proving hard to escape from.
Calmanius is in close to Khalidov's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Calmanius is fighting to break Khalidov's control of his arms but Khalidov is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Khalidov wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mamed Khalidov will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

and Calmanius counters with a shoot takedown. Khalidov fights it but they end up in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Calmanius lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Calmanius is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Calmanius might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Khalidov manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Calmanius doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Khalidov counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Simon Calmanius. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Calmanius gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Calmanius wants to sweep but no luck.
Khalidov pushes down on Calmanius's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Khalidov seems to be looking for submissions.
Khalidov is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Khalidov is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Calmanius!

Khalidov is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Calmanius is covering up but some of the strikes from Khalidov are getting through and doing damage.

Khalidov has the hooks in. Calmanius is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Will Khalidov go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Calmanius looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mamed Khalidov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Khalidov has control of Calmanius's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Calmanius regains control of the situation pretty easily.
A nice elbow there by Khalidov.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Calmanius is squirming around, avoiding Khalidov's attempts to control the action.
Calmanius wants to hold on but Khalidov pushes him away.
Khalidov can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Calmanius is looking to escape.

Khalidov looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Calmanius slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Calmanius wants to improve his position but Khalidov is controlling well.
Khalidov wants to take a breather but Calmanius is having none of it.
Khalidov wants to stand up but Calmanius has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Calmanius wants to control but Khalidov is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Khalidov is taking a breather. Calmanius says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Khalidov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Calmanius keeps working.

Despite being in the dominant position, Mamed Khalidov just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Calmanius bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Calmanius swings around for an armbar but Khalidov sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Calmanius's guard.

Khalidov is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Mamed Khalidov is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Mamed Khalidov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Khalidov has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
