PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Benicio Del Toro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sucker Punch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Punch comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Lamb of God - Now You've Got Something to Die for kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Sucker Punch told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Benicio Del Toro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sucker Punch!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Gregory Folan and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Punch misses the shot to the body.
Punch walks forward, straight into a front kick from Del Toro.
Del Toro jabs Punch right on the nose. Punch blinks but takes it well.
Del Toro tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Punch circles away from the clinch attempt.
Punch keeps the fight on the outside.
Punch takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Punch looks gassed!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The fight stays on the outside here - Del Toro looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Punch blocks a low kick nicely.
Del Toro shoots for a takedown but Punch saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Del Toro staying out of range there.
Punch fails with a takedown attempt.
Del Toro looks for a takedown but Punch sprawls well.
A head kick misses from Del Toro.

A nice combination there by Del Toro.
The fight stays on the outside here - Del Toro looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Del Toro tries to clinch but Punch moves out of range.
Del Toro is looking to clinch.
Del Toro lands a nice looking kick to the body. Punch takes a step back to recover.
Del Toro tries for a takedown but Punch circles away easily

and Punch counters with a nice double leg into side control. Del Toro won't be happy with that.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Benicio Del Toro. That's going to take a lot out of him.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Del Toro dodges the ground and pound from Punch.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Del Toro pushes Punch away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Punch gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Check out the look on Punch's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Punch postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Del Toro seems a little lost for a moment, as Punch dominates the positioning.

Punch tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Punch has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Punch prevents Del Toro from escaping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Punch thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Del Toro is trying to buck Punch off.
Del Toro really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Punch advances nicely into full mount.
Del Toro is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Punch thowing shots but they're missing.
Del Toro tries to buck Punch off but he can't manage it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Punch has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Punch misses with a head shot.
You get the feeling that Del Toro really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Punch looking to control but Del Toro is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Punch thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Punch throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Del Toro trying desperately to get to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Punch looking to control and managing it successfully.
Del Toro tries to buck Punch off but he can't manage it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Punch wants to control the pace but Del Toro is squirming around nicely.
Del Toro trying desperately to get to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Punch lands a heavy elbow.
Del Toro tries to buck Punch off but he can't manage it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Benicio Del Toro dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Del Toro tries to clinch but Punch is having none of it.
Del Toro connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt Punch! He's out on his feet! Del Toro rushes in and drops Punch with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:09 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Benicio Del Toro!
