PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Richard Head (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and joe bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Head comes to the cage accompanied by Dizzee Rascal- Where's da g's?. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Richard Head!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, joe bob!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Richard Clark and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Head tries to clinch but bob is having none of it.
Head wants to clinch.
Head tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but bob paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Head swinging wilding here.
Head is looking to clinch but bob is avoiding it.
Head shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with bob but bob pushes him off and we're back to square one.
bob misses with a combination

so Head counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Head postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
bob tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Head connects with a couple of short punches.
Head tries to free his leg and advance position but bob is retaining full guard.
Head is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Head throwing strikes but missing.
bob keeping moving, preventing Head from controlling successfully.
Head wants to pass the guard but bob is keeping the position.

Head slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
bob is looking for a sweep.
bob parries the strikes from Head easily there. Head is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable bob to escape.
Head is putting a hurting on bob here, landing some big shots from side control.
Head sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but bob is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Head in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
You can see the frustration on bob's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Head stands up.
Head throws a left and a right that both miss

and bob counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by bob.
bob should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Head tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. bob smiles and moves away.
Head swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and bob holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Head is breathing heavily.

Head has picked bob up - he's going for a ride! Head dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Head decides to stand and escape the position.
bob closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Head slips a jab and a cross from bob.
Head misses with a body punch
and bob counters with a two punch combo.
Head wants to clinch
and Head takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and bob moves into the clinch.

Head tries to pull guard but bob holds him up against the cage and eventually Head drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Richard Head. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Head throws an ugly left hook that misses
and bob counters with a nice uppercut.

and bob holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
bob fails to pull guard.
Head wants a takedown.

bob drops down looking for an ankle pick but Head pulls his leg out and moves away.
bob looks to land a combination but Head avoids it well.

Head manages to break the clinch.
Head misses with a combination
and bob counters with a left and a right that stings Head.
bob throws a one two combo.
Richard Head seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

bob rushes Head and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
bob prevents a takedown attempt there.
Head drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
bob wants to get back to striking at distance but Head won't allow it.

Head turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Head manages to end up in side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Head tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Head has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Head just content to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Richard Head overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
bob is in a horrible position here. Head smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Head has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of bob's face.

Head thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Horrible takedown by Head or perhaps it was just good defense by bob which made him look bad.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Head takes one on the chin but seems OK.
bob throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
bob might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Head thuds his shin into the meat of bob's side.
Head shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says bob as he avoids it easily.

Head looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Head has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics bob uses from the top position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

joe bob comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Head has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
