PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Borat Sadgijev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Puolukka Perse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Puolukka Perse is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Borat Sadgijev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Puolukka Perse!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Anni Minnemäki and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perse misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Sadgijev feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Sadgijev has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Perse is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Perse is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Perse is pulling down on Sadgijev's head to control his posture.

Sadgijev is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Perse has his foot on Sadgijev's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sadgijev works his way back into a safe position though.

Perse escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sadgijev gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Perse throws his legs up looking for a submission but Sadgijev uses it to pass to side control.

Perse misses with a takedown attempt

and Sadgijev counters with a shoot takedown. Perse fights it but they end up in guard.

Sadgijev avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Perse not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Perse has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sadgijev can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sadgijev wants to pass the guard but Perse is keeping the position.
Sadgijev loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Borat Sadgijev will probably get the nod.

Perse shoots and misses

and Sadgijev counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Perse!

Sadgijev postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Perse to stand up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Perse is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Sadgijev.

Sadgijev misses with a hook. Perse ducked under it nicely.
Sadgijev swats away the attempt to clinch by Perse.
Perse shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sadgijev pinned against the cage. Sadgijev gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Perse is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Sadgijev pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Borat Sadgijev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Puolukka Perse.
Perse throws a knee to the head but misses.
Perse tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Sadgijev just stands there and leans against the cage.
Perse misses with a punch to the body.

Sadgijev tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Perse jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sadgijev walks away with a smile on his face. Perse gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Puolukka Perse seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Perse shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sadgijev defends it nicely.

Sadgijev knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Perse on the ground.

Sadgijev got a little sloppy there for a moment and Perse has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sadgijev has managed to get both his arms back between Perse's legs - danger averted.
Perse working a defensive guard but Sadgijev passes into half guard.
Perse is staying active underneath Sadgijev, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Perse is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Sadgijev's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Sadgijev's back!

Perse lands a shot to the head.
Sadgijev controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
Perse lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Perse.
Sadgijev tries to break free.
Perse has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Sadgijev.
Perse scores with strikes from the back.
I really don't envy Sadgijev right now.

Perse is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Perse has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Sadgijev! Can he survive? No! He's out! Perse gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
