PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Humberto Suazo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Humberto Suazo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ben West!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

West shoots in and bounces Suazo off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
West trying to control the position from guard on top but Suazo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Suazo keeping full guard, as West tries to pass.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Suazo utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

West gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
West goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


It looks like Humberto Suazo has been cut.
Suazo misses with a takedown attempt

and West counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The fighters are battling for position here. Suazo manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
West trying to control the position from guard on top but Suazo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Suazo pushes West off and gets back to his feet.

West closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
West wants to stand up but Suazo has a hold of him and won't allow it.

West seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Suazo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

West is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Suazo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. West is working away from the top position though.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



West closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - West lands in his opponent's guard.
Suazo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Suazo is pulling down on West's head to control his posture.
West wants to pass the guard but Suazo is keeping the position.
Suazo keeping moving, preventing West from controlling successfully.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

West trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Suazo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Suazo bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in West's guard.
West wants to get back to his feet but Suazo is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

West is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Suazo defends well.
West controls Suazo momentarily but Suazo frees himself.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Suazo is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
West is trying to control the position but Suazo postures up.

West looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
West keeping full guard, as Suazo tries to pass.
West trying to keep a closed guard but Suazo is proving a slippery customer.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Suazo will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Suazo shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. West is trying to defend but Suazo finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
West is refusing to be controlled, as Suazo sits in half guard.
Suazo is controlling the pace.

West escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Suazo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

West is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for West. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
West is trying to control the position from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Humberto Suazo will probably get the nod.

A right-left combo lands from Suazo.
Suazo moves into range and connects with a jab.
West throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
West circles away from the clinch attempt.
West tries to clinch but Suazo is having none of it.
Suazo takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Suazo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so West counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
West is in close to Suazo's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

West drops back looking for a leg! Suazo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Suazo manages to kick West off! West jumps back into Suazo's guard.
West wants to pass the guard but Suazo is keeping the position.

West wants to control from the top but Suazo keeps moving.

West stands up and waves to Suazo to follow him.
West closes the distance but Suazo moves to the side

and Suazo counters by clinching up.
West is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Suazo is keeping busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Suazo is fighting to break West's control of his arms but West is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

West is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Suazo is controlling him.
Suazo slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

West is pulling down on Suazo's head. It's preventing any offense from Suazo, at least for the moment.

Ben West comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think West has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
