PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sami Sivupotku (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Esa Tapio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tapio drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Sivupotku is looking for a sweep.
Tapio misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Sivupotku is looking to reverse the position.
Tapio is looking to take a break and control but Sivupotku is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Tapio remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Tapio tries to get to his feet but Sivupotku is in the middle of advancing position himself and ends up with Tapio in his guard.
Sivupotku not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Sivupotku had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Tapio is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Sivupotku Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Tapio's back instead.
Sivupotku wants to control but Tapio manages to buck him off and is now in Sivupotku's guard! Nice work there by Tapio!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sivupotku is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Tapio has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sivupotku is proving hard to escape from.

Sivupotku is trying to keep Tapio in close.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Sivupotku wants to sweep but no luck.
Sivupotku is trying to control the position but Tapio postures up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Sivupotku is breathing heavily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Tapio is looking to stand up but Sivupotku won't let him.
Tapio wants to control from the top but Sivupotku keeps moving.
Tapio must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Tapio has gone for a leg lock! Sivupotku slips out almost immediately though and dives into Tapio's guard.

Sivupotku passes Tapio's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Sivupotku prevents Tapio from standing back up.

Sivupotku is thwarting Tapio's attempts to control the position.
Sivupotku is stalling here. Tapio is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Sivupotku seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Tapio has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Sivupotku is looking to reverse the position.

Sivupotku gets back to half guard.
Tapio really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sivupotku. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Sivupotku has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Tapio is working away from the top position though.

Tapio gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Tapio postures up in Sivupotku's guard and throws a big left but Sivupotku blocks it.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Esa Tapio dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Tapio lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
The is referee keeping an eye on Tapio - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Tapio fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Tapio is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Sivupotku pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Sivupotku has had enough of the clinch but Tapio keeps him there for the moment.
Sivupotku drops down looking for an ankle pick but Tapio pulls his leg out and moves away.
Tapio looks for a takedown but Sivupotku sprawls well.
Sami Sivupotku has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Esa Tapio.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Tapio counters with a shoot takedown. Sivupotku fights it but they end up in guard.

Sivupotku wants to stand and escape but Tapio is having none of it.
Sivupotku has momentary wrist control but Tapio slips an elbow through the middle.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Tapio's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Sivupotku wants to control the position but Tapio says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Tapio slows the pace down in half guard.
Sivupotku is pressing down on Tapio's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Sivupotku lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Tapio!

Sivupotku has isolated one of Tapio's arms. Tapio looking to fight him off but Sivupotku twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
