The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oboev tries to clinch but Malone is having none of it.

Malone lands a left and a right that send Oboev crashing to the mat, dazed. Malone thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

It looks like Rulon Oboev has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Malone throws a hook but Oboev avoids it easily.

Oboev gets the takedown into side control.

Oboev is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Malone knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Malone is trying to maintain the position but Oboev is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Oboev controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Malone has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Oboev can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Oboev avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Oboev postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Malone is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Oboev, into his guard.

Malone lands a big shot there that rocks Oboev but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Malone jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Oboev is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Oboev and Malone has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Malone wants to control but Oboev is keeping him busy.
Oboev regains half guard there - taking advantage of Malone's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Malone wants to advance to full mount but Oboev doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Malone got a little sloppy there for a moment and Oboev has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Malone has managed to get both his arms back between Oboev's legs - danger averted.

Oboev is looking to sinch up a triangle. Malone throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Oboev's body to avoid the submission. Oboev has instead reached around Malone's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Oboev arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
