The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarez clobbers Shaddix with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Alvarez gets caught flat footed, as Shaddix shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Shaddix has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Alvarez is proving hard to escape from.
Shaddix wants to pass the guard but Alvarez is keeping the position.
Shaddix must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alvarez tries to land a sweep but no joy.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Shaddix accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Alvarez in particular looking to stall.

Alvarez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Shaddix does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Shaddix is kicking away at Alvarez from the bottom - trying to push off and stand up. Alvarez grabs hold of a leg and drops back for a hell hook! The two fighters roll across the mat, with Shaddix trying to push Alvarez off... Shaddix taps! He's tapped! This one is all over! A throwback to the old Pancrase there with an infrequently seen submission hold! Nice work.
