Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Junior Andrade! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcio Melim! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Mauricio Rocha and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Melim stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Melim wants it to stay on the feet. Andrade throws a nice looking combination but Melim bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Andrade fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Melim on the side of the head. Andrade drives through and clinches with Melim against the cage.
Melim tries for a takedown. No joy.
Andrade tries to score a body lock takedown but Melim shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Knees in the clinch landing for Andrade.

Andrade pulls Melim into guard.
Melim thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Andrade had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Melim defends it easily. Melim is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. That's one minute gone in the round. Melim drops back looking for a leg! Andrade is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Andrade manages to kick Melim off! Melim jumps back into Andrade's guard. Melim looks gassed! Melim wants to pass the guard but Andrade is keeping the position. Andrade wants to sweep but no luck. Melim drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Melim jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Andrade fails to land the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Junior Andrade. That's going to take a lot out of him. Andrade connects with a high kick.
It looks like Marcio Melim has been cut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Melim on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Andrade connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Melim momentarily.
Andrade scores with a jab to the jaw. Andrade forces Melim back against the cage and clinches. Andrade lands a nice knee to the body. Knees to the body from Andrade.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Andrade jumps guard and drags Melim to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Melim drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Andrade dives on top into guard. Andrade stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Melim swivels though and keeps the full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Melim can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Andrade controls the pace. Melim is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Andrade cracks Melim with a solid left hand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Andrade trying to control but Melim is working from the bottom. Andrade stays in close to Melim's body and controls the position. Andrade knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Melim on the ground. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Andrade postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Andrade stays in close to Melim's body and controls the position. Melim working for a triangle but Andrade defends it easily.

Junior Andrade dominated that round. The cut man is working on Marcio Melim's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Melim takes a kick to the side of the head. Andrade throws a nice looking combination but Melim bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Andrade scores with a hook. Andrade will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Melim misses with a takedown attempt and Andrade counters by moving into the clinch. Andrade jumps into guard, dragging Melim to the mat.
Melim won't allow Andrade to get back to his feet. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Andrade can't keep his opponent in guard - Melim advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Melim is looking for a kimura here.
Melim seems to be looking for submissions.
Melim tries to pass to full mount but Andrade defends it. Andrade manages to get to full guard.
Andrade lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Melim! Melim can't escape the position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Andrade controlling from mount. Andrade has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Melim is looking to improve his position but Andrade isn't that keen on the idea. Andrade tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Melim is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Andrade controlling the pace for now. Melim gets back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Melim looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Melim regains full guard. Nicely done. Andrade not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Melim is looking to sinch up a triangle. Andrade throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Melim's body to avoid the submission. Melim has instead reached around Andrade's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Melim arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Marcio Melim! Marcio Melim retains his light heavyweight title!
