PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Magus Arbenson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pete Parkkonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Parkkonen has chosen AC/DC - Rock N' Roll Train as his entrance music. The key to victory for Magus Arbenson has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Magus Arbenson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pete Parkkonen!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Parkkonen uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Arbenson.
Arbenson throws the kick towards the body but Parkkonen avoids it.
Arbenson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Parkkonen throws a nice looking combination but Arbenson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Arbenson throws a head kick but Parkkonen moves out of range.
Arbenson pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Parkkonen drives through with a takedown into guard.

Arbenson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Parkkonen can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Parkkonen has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Arbenson works to full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Arbenson throws a head kick but Parkkonen moves out of range.

Arbenson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Parkkonen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Parkkonen shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Arbenson as he jumps to the side.
Arbenson throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Arbenson throws a half hearted mid kick.

Parkkonen fails in his attempt to clinch.
Arbenson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Parkkonen is looking to clinch.
Arbenson throws a sloppy head kick

and Parkkonen holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Parkkonen prevents the takedown attempt.

Arbenson gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Parkkonen desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Parkkonen is looking to control Arbenson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Parkkonen avoid being mounted?
Parkkonen looks gassed!

Arbenson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Parkkonen is just riding it out for now. Arbenson eventually gives up the hold.

Arbenson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Parkkonen is trying to stand.
Arbenson wants to pass the guard but Parkkonen is defending well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Parkkonen wants to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Magus Arbenson will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Parkkonen pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Arbenson dodges the punch combination from Parkkonen.
Parkkonen tries to close the distance and clinch up but Arbenson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Parkkonen is looking to clinch but Arbenson is avoiding it.
Arbenson looks to throw the jab but Parkkonen is out of range.
Parkkonen swinging wilding here.
Arbenson throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Arbenson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Pete Parkkonen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Parkkonen stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Arbenson.
Arbenson tries a head kick but it misses.
Parkkonen is breathing heavily.
Parkkonen checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Arbenson throws a sloppy head kick and Parkkonen moves out of range easily.

Parkkonen steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Arbenson. That one must have hurt.

Arbenson lets loose with a powerful body kick. Parkkonen will feel that in the morning.
Arbenson throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Parkkonen.
Parkkonen misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Parkkonen tries to move into range but Arbenson moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Arbenson tries to reverse the position but Parkkonen maintains control.

Parkkonen jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Arbenson is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Arbenson and Parkkonen has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Arbenson is looking for a sweep.
Arbenson wants to control but Parkkonen postures up.
Parkkonen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Arbenson keeps working.
Arbenson can't do much from the bottom here.
Arbenson is trying to get back to half guard.
Parkkonen is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Parkkonen decides to stand back up. Parkkonen steps back and let's Arbenson get back to his feet.

Parkkonen rushes Arbenson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Parkkonen prevents a takedown attempt there.

Parkkonen fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Arbenson sprawls well initially but Parkkonen persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Arbenson is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Parkkonen's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Parkkonen's back!

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Parkkonen tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Arbenson paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Parkkonen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
BOOM! Parkkonen connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Parkkonen goes for an armbar but Arbenson turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Arbenson.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Parkkonen might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Arbenson kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
